I used to enjoy going to Burger King. Their playroom is great on a winter’s day for the kids to get their energy out and I could get a decent amount of food at a reasonable price. Now I can’t say that any more. The introduction of their “Burger Shots” value meal may have me going back to Fuddruckers these days. (Fuddrucker’s “unlimited fries promo” seems to be a well kept secret)

Burger Shots are mini hamburgers. The same size you can get from any White Castle, affectionately known as “Ratburgers” or “Sliders”. The BK version tastes more like their Whopper counterpart, flame-broiled without the grease. My issue isn’t with the taste or quality, but with the price. You have the option to purchase these burgers with or without cheese.
Now, I am well aware of the BK “With cheese, right?” scam. They train their drive-thru people to suggest cheese in an “of course” manner. They never ask “Would you like to pay $0.60 more for a slice of American cheese?” So I knew I was going to get charged extra when I was asked if I wanted the cheeseburger version of the BK Shots. What I didn’t realize is that they would charge me $0.60 per mini burger! With 6 tiny burgers per box, that’s $3.60 extra.
- Burgers alone: $4.39
- Cost to add a tiny slice of cheese to each: $3.60
- Total: $7.99 for 6 tiny burgers.
Let’s not forget the fact I could just buy 6 Whopper Jr’s off their Dollar Value Meal menu for $6.00. Angry Whopper? How about Angry Customer?

a zillion years ago when I was in college, I saw lotsa advertising for Fuddrucker’s (“You won’t Believe how BIG it is”) The burger didn’t seem all that big, but I couldn’t BELIEVE how expensive it was. I prefer Jack In The Box myself, but y’all don’t have them on the east coast.
The 1/4 pound Fuddrucker Burger is about the same price as as a Whopper. The differrence is that you can put an unlimited amount of toppings on it, including cheese. Not to mention a much larger selection of beverages. Adding fries and a drink raised the price above a large BK value meal. However, if you get unlimited fries, you can do better pricewise at Fuddruckers these days. “The King” nearby has really gone downhill. Lot’s of old people sitting in booths all day, punk kid skateboarders hanging out, and workers sitting on the curb smoking cigarettes waiting for someone to pick them up after work. I also see a lot of scammers using BK as a meeting place. Eavesdropping on their conversations, they have the balls to make people fill out applications for their “work at home” schemes, in BK of all places. Lame. Someone call the police on these people. Even their play park reeks of foot odor and is filthy. The sad part is I used to love the King.
This is insane. I can’t believe, well I guess I can, that they would do something like that. I was never much of a fan of BK in the first place (The hamburgers look like someone sat on them), but after hearing this, I will stick with Jack, or my personal favorite, the Double Western bacon Cheeseburger at Carl’s Jr.
I never liked the idea of buying mini-burgers, let alone buying mini-burgers from a fast food joint. I see mini-burgers as something that ‘gourmet’ chefs came up with as some gimicky thing, and therefore should not be purchased from a fast food joint like BK.
I understand why you wanted to try it… but if you had asked me I would’ve told you not to and I would’ve been able to say I told you so right now.
Burger King is disgusting! My sister and my mother used to love Burger King, but after going in there seeing greasy tables and the grime covered kids playground they stopped going. I’ve never seen the scammers you speak of, but I see the smoking employees thing. I don’t care if people smoke, but it just makes the company look bad when workers it on the curb smoking like that. If they had a area in the back with a wooden fence where workers can take a break outdoors that would be one thing, but to do it in front of customers grosses me out.

Just when I thought it was safe to go to Burger King again. Darn.
I haven’t been able to get past their advertising – obviously it’s just been a foretaste of the food to expect once I get there. I just got “buy one get one free” coupons in the mail. Those will be heading to waste bin!
Another merchant you really have to watch is Target. Most people believe if they buy the larger, “value pack” that they will save a few bucks. Yet my wife and I have found that in a lot of products they stock, the more you buy the more you pay per unit.
You need a computer with you in the store showing you the best prices. These days I only buy clearance specials except for milk.
