Saphrym from Saphrym.com wants to find out. That’s why he’s selling 1000 credits on eBay. I bid $1.00 and was quickly outbid. After 2 days, the bid is already up to $5.50. As I have 6000+ spare credits, I’ve very curious what it goes for. My prediction is $8.00, since that works out to $4.00 an hour at the rate I click. Anyone want to venture a guess?

if the demand grows for these credits, i think graham will be super happy
Great idea! I may have to buy up some credits.
Let’s just say that if it’s not at LEAST the $8.00 you predict, then people are charging WAY too little in the shop.
I’ll bet it’ll be at least $20. People love spending money, and if they think those credits can help them attract readers faster, they might even pay more.
W00t!
In the future, I believe Entrecard would probably sell Entrecard Credits (ec) themselves.
The bid is still stuck at USD 5.50 though.
Guess folks are not willing to fork out more than that for it huh?

Since I only started yesterday I have no clue how much or how high the bid would go
But it’s fun to see a bunch of various and new sites
I think they’ll sell for around $10, and if people keep auctioning them and spreading the word, I do think that it will raise the monetary cost of EC’s
Still 5,50 – I think it’ll go just above $10.
I see lot’s of high predictions, but few bidders on eBay.
So, should I save all my credits, not drop and then sell on ebay? Does this help the newer bloggers just starting out?
How to wisely spend your credits? Advertise on any site you see in the “most recent”. Save your credits on contests you host, or for buying things in the shop. The shop items are way undervalued if you need them.
I agree with Turnip. Also buying ads on the “Most Popular” tab help tremendously, but they can be expensive.
Side Note: Graham encourages selling the credits in the information on the site. I don’t think they’ll sell them themselves. That would create a “set cost” for them. I think they want them to fluctuate just like any other currency.
P.S. The bid is at $6.50 and still has 5 days left.
for 1250 you can buy a $10 itunes card… so whoever created that listing has some value.
Remember though the entrecard system is a system where the number of credits in the system only goes up and rarely down. The only time the number goes down is when people buy ads on another users site (in which case the seller receives a portion of the credits) and when the credits are used to buy something from entrecard (stickers, listings etc).
In order to keep a value higher – they would need to have more things that you can purchase from entrecard directly and figure out a way to keep more credits out of circulation.
Without getting too technical – if you look at MMORPG economies you see a similar problem in most.
Matt, that is a genius idea. If I could equip my Entrecard widget with a bind on equip coat of arms, some costly animation, or simply pay more for a different color widget, that would suck some credits out of the system.
They’ve stated that they plan on doing just that. I think, just like an MMO, they’re working on the bugs first and then will add more features. (Just hopefully, like an MMO, their bugs don’t BECOME features.)
I just checked, the auction has 19 bids and it is up to $10.52 with over 4 days left. I added it to my watch list.
I wonder if the price went above $10 because of the novelty of being the first auction of it’s kind, or because someone really values those credits. If you think about it, a company that wants to sponsor a contest doesn’t want to have to actually click. They’d rather pay $20 and then give away the 2000 credits. Say it costs $10 to run an ad for 1 day on John Chows site, with 1000 cr you could run that ad 3 days. A bargain for those who look.
I think many people are curious what credits sell for in real dollars.
With the prices of blogs increasing on Entrecard and more items in the shop, maybe there may be an increase in demand for the credits.
Only time will tell.
Sitecash previously put up some credits earlier in December, and received about 1.25 for 50. If that price per credit holds then, then my guess is $25.
