A new feature starting today is Free E-book Friday. Each Friday I will be giving away one of those silly Internet marketing books. The ones people foolishly pay money for. Going by what some people pay, you could be getting stuff worth countless dollars!
There is a funny story how I got these books. When I first started Turnipofpower.com back in October 2007, one of those spambots left some comments on my blog. I clicked on the link out of curiosity, and instead of finding a website I found a directory tree. One folder said “e-books”, so I downloaded like 10 of them. Most I deleted, but kept a few. So now I share this wonderful library of nonsense with my readers. I suppose I will make a few comments along with each one.
Without further ado, here is the link for FREE E-BOOK #1. It promises 101 tips to explode your blog traffic! I picked this one first because it offered the best advice. Now, Please PLEASE PLEASE do not run out and follow everything in this book like some kind of misprogrammed robot. This book is good for when you run out of marketing ideas. Some things are outdated, and Google and other companies change their rules all the time. But overall I can always find something interesting in it to inspire me. Pick one idea, try it, and move on. Remember, this is not my e-book. I have every right to give it away, but you must abide by the terms given inside it. Not to edit it in any way, republish in parts as web content, and so on.
Let me know your opinion of it.

**********Downloaded a copy. I’ll read it over the weekend. Thanks!
I am not so sure I agree with you that it is okay for you to give away this free eBook, whether you deem the quality good or bad.
I would liken this to you walking by BestBuy one night and find the back door is open. You walk in and help yourself to a truckload of merchandise. Then you decide to give it all away for free.
I don’t know.
Thanks! this is a great idea
I’ll download and have a look.
I hope one of those e-books wasn’t about securing your Web site.
Kex, The first page of the E-book says: “you have the right to give this ebook away for free”. So you can be sure I have the right. The analogy would be if I left a note on your door saying “Kex, come to my website and download this e-book. When you go to my site there is a link saying “kex your ebook is here”.
Paul, I’m pretty sure the spammer isn’t the author, just another guy on the net trying to get rich quick.
Okay, I stand corrected. I apologize for my comment. I guess next time I will download the article first and then make judgment. Thanks for the clarification. Again, I am sorry.
Kex, No need to apologize. You do raise an important issue. Suppose the first guy stole the e-book. Even if he gave it to me for free, I would have no right to republish the work, whether I link to his site or not. Luckily, most of these e-books state they are free as long as the content isn’t changed in any way. I see dishonest webmasters stealing copyrighted material like cartoons all the time. Then falling back on the “a reader sent it to me” defense. While the cartoon plainly has copyright and trademark logos written right on it.
[...] dissappoints, and it giving away a free marketing e-book each Friday until they run out. Free E-Book Friday #1 presents the first book for download. Be sure to read it and [...]
A few of my good articles have ended up being copied word for word on forums with no link back to me or credit to me. So, I am a little sensitive to copyright infringement. Some people don’t seem to understand copyright laws or just plain ignore them. Thanks for understanding.
I’ll wait and see what the next book is….I’m okay with the traffic I have right now…thanks to Entrecard and some loyal readers!
Are you reading this book? It’s great. I found five or six tricks to increase traffic in the 20 minutes it took me to read it. Perhaps you can lead a horse to water…
Downloaded it, will have a look at it when I have the time
Thanks.
Thanks, I will read it later. One question. If you had purchased this e book would you then have to right to give it away?
Etta: The answer is yes I would have the right, however, I would sooner throw my money into the sewer than buy an E-book. Marketing E-books and DVD’s are the biggest piles of garbage on the net. Saying “this offer expires in 3 days” doesn’t make them better either. Im fascinated how people are interested in copyrights when it comes to ebooks. There are entrecard sites out there that steal much of their content from others. Just enter a sentence or two into google on a suspected site.
I’ll check it out. My hubby says that I have so much traffic going to Mommies Home that the lag is killing our gaming, lol, so I’ll see if I can piss him off even more!
Mommie
Turnip, I so agree with not buying an e book. I have said so many times, if everyone bought one then you would see how the sites on making money actually make theirs. By suckers sending in a dollar.
