To quote the Entrecard blog: “Right now you can buy ads on over 30,000 blogs across 60 vertical niches“. This bold faced lie has been repeated over and over by Mr Langdon about his Entrecard Traffic Exchange on both his own forums and on twitter. Why doesn’t anyone publicly call him on this figure? It’s downright preposterous. Behold the real figures!

And the Grand Total is?
Claimed Number: 42,942
Actual Number of Entrecard Blogs: 16105
Why the big lie? Count any category yourself if you don’t believe me. These figures are 11 days old. According to Entrecard, they received over 1000 new signups since announcing their new advertising policy. “I’m always amazed how controversy drives record numbers of signups… nearly 1000 in the last 24 hours #entrecard” So again I ask you, where are the blogs?
Never does Mr Langdon say “We once had 30k blogs” or “We have that many accounts, but half don’t have widgets anymore”, he clearly states you are able to advertise on over 30k blogs.
*How to count the blogs? Go to “Browse” at Entrecard and check the “Has widget” and “Accepting Ads” checkboxes, and set the search for 24 rows. A full page will have 120 ads. Count the number of pages minus one, and then click on the last page to see how many are on that page. That’s your result for any category. Thanks to anonymous for submitting this information to me. You know who you are
Maybe Graham and the Monkey Man are one and the same guy.
the thing that entrecard does is allow people to sign up for more than one category, then they count that blog in more than one category.
I’ve been watching this development since they said they were going to accept third-party ads.
It seems the whole thing is destined to crash and burn or EC will change its mind about accepting the third-party ads. Regardless it’s interesting to watch the whole thing go down.
It doesn’t look like many EC users are happy with the direction it’s headed.
Even the category numbers are inflated! There are still 4 of my blogs that show up in the categories even though they do not have widgets and are no longer part of entrecard. Others have reported similar problems of having their blogs removed even though they have left entrecard. The admin aka Graham with his hat is very, very slow to remove the blog cards which serves to inflate the number of blogs in the system. Shame on you Graham!
You know, if you keep this up you might run out of material.
Turnip, you never cease to amaze me. You are like the “Entrecard Watchdog”. As always, very interesting.
Well, at least we have someone to try to keep entrecard in check. We need more critics like you to keep the site in line.
I doubled checked a few of the figures and they’re accurate. Most likely a fault in the Entrecard software. The front page doesn’t match up to the category page even if you include the blogs without widgets.
Talk about over inflating. Out of the 16,105, how many of them are actually valid blogs?
Hey you mtfshit. You’re so fucking sissy and you’re using entrecard to increase your membership but I know for a fact you’re losing money bigtime. BIG FUCKING TIME.
“The real question is, are YOU using Entrecard as effectively as turnip did?” – Entrecard Admin
I think Graham wrote that, but you never can be sure with a sock puppet account…
Anyway, nice job on stirring up the fire here with these last few posts.
Richard: What you say may be true, but that is not what they have claimed repeatedly.
Geekmom: I noticed while checking that there there are thousands of blogs that show up that shouldn’t be counted. Also a lot of splogs that should be removed.
John: Glad someone checked. When someone claims something, check the facts. Agree or disagreee, but at least check.
Paul: I can’t even begin to guess the number of splogs. Let’s just say “alot”.
Spiritwarrior: You are welcome here, but you are expected to use your proper name and URL. Lucky for me my “source” over at EC was kind enough to provide your details. As you say on your blog “Proving me wrong does not make me less intelligent or smart…But in so doing, my world will be a lot easier to understand and I’d be able to share to the rest of the world everyone’s wisdom…” So understand this. CMF Ads costs us $40 a month for a dedicated server and $10 a year for the domain name. Any other expenses are for advertising or software related. We were profitable in January when we relaunched. Easier to understand now?
Abovethefold: Stirring things up? I must be a Cournalist, but I don’t even remember eating corn. I’ll accept the compliment, if only half true. My 3 most popular articles on turnipofpower.com are from search engine traffic and not Entrecard related. As for traffic dropping, 400 less card droppers staying for a fraction of a second are bound to lower my unique visitor count, but Alexa discounts that rubbish traffic anyway. Now why doesn’t Entrecard post it’s real traffic figures instead of hiding behind 3rd party “estimated traffic” figures?
Not surprising, Not unexpected, sounds like something an Ass Hat would try and pull off..
@Spiritwarrior nice……..blogspot could you try and squeeze anymore ads on your site??? and what’s a mtfshit??? maybe your blog name should be smarterthanagrade5_but_dumberthangrade7.blogspot.com
I’ve removed two of my 3 blogs from EC, but they have not removed the accounts. Took off the EC widget when they started displaying their crappy looking “generic entrecard widget” for those who were not accepting ads on their sites. I had disabled ads some time ago due to the bothersome people who kept wanting to advertise on them when I had clearly stated in the descriptions that those two blogs only took ads from similar sites.
My time was already tight and trying to keep those guys rejected was becoming a waste of time. Despite repeated people asking for the ability to block those requests, they never have to this day enabled that feature.
@Margaret
I am annoyed at their new widget on my site that’s not accepting ads. It used to be and Should be the blog’s Own card. EC just keeps on annoying me.
Turnip, you are the man.
and I was the busta tonite when I popped his cherry by scoopin his announcement of the new settings – and explaining how before he did.
“ooooopppss did I do thatttt…”
guess that’s why I’m on CMF now.
Keep it rollin Mr Turnip – Ya Large and In Charge
I enjoy Entrecard and it does bring me a lot of traffic (surprisingly with lower bounce rates than most seem to get), but your articles on Entrecard are definitely interesting and enlightening.
Ausetkmt and Liza: Glad you both enjoy my articles. The question remains, if I didn’t write them, who would? There are a few blogs that still write about Entrecard, but never anything negative. Nobody in the forums asks any tough questions. In fact, that’s a pretty good idea for my next post. “Questions Entrecard Members Are Afraid To Ask”
Yes Turnip, the numbers they use over at Entrecard don’t take much analysis to pick apart. Look at the traffic numbers they tout.
When you dig just below the surface like I did in a recent post you find those 5 million hits break down to about 6 hits per day per blog.
In fact, that’s a pretty good idea for my next post. “Questions Entrecard Members Are Afraid To Ask”
And I’ve got lots of ideas to help you do just that.
Turnip isn’t “watching” Entrecard alone, now. Take it from a former user and Moderator, who would be me: Bigger questions need to be asked- and the questions aren’t about the number members, but funds and where those funds go.
Just think that what will happen if all non widget blogs get removed from there . Today.com bloggers also removing entrecard because today.com is not ready to support 3rd party ads .
If entrecard can allow its users to cash or sale their points than may be they can see little bounce in their system .
Another big problem with entrecard is that they don’t take action fast . I requested mediation in one deal but now users has completed the task and asking me to send him ec points .
He has already posted that task is completed but EC mods are not transferring EC points and even we don’t have any button to release the payment from In mediation section .
Now think how many EC points are fixed deposited in In mediation process .
Anybody who sits there all day and “drops their card” is setting themselves up for failure! It’s as simple as that. Entrecard along with paid posts are the biggest wastes of time ever alongside of checking your AdSense statistics.
Fact is, ‘content’ is what’s going to get you the traffic. If you can’t obtain traffic from Google for real content, then you’re obviously either not good enough at making real content, or you know absolutely nothing about SEO. And if either of those two things are the case, then you’re not going to make a penny blogging.
I say it like it is.
first graham says this
“For turnip though, he’s making a great effort to cause controversy wherever he can”
then he says this
“But simply because turnip took the time to count every blog displayed in our directory and found out that only half were displaying does not automatically mean we’re lying. it simply means we have a bug.”
who cares if it’s a lie or a bug… it’s still misleading. ignorance is no excuse for pushing false stats.
Don’t worry too much about SpIrItWaRrIoR, not only do her comments not make sense, but her posts don’t either.
