This is the premise behind entrecard.com. When you see an ad like the one on the right, clicking on ”Drop Yours” will give you advertising credits. These credits can then be spent to feature your ad on other sites. Sign up is free and quick. All it requires is a 125×125 .jpg or .png. and a suitable website. The following is a short explanation of how Entrecard works: “Entrecard is the first and only free exchange network for 125×125 ads. Through this revolutionary platform, you can advertise your own 125×125 Entrecard on any blog in the network, for free, for a number of days. You pay for this advertising with Entrecard Credits, that you earn for free by networking (a.k.a. visiting blogs and dropping your card for other bloggers.”
The widgets come in 3 different sizes. The code is a simple line of javascript. Once you sign up and place the code on your site, visit your Entrecard dashboard and get the feel of how things work. Set your ad approval settings. Click on “campaign” to find ads to click on and ads to spend your credits on. The column labelled “advertisers” will quickly show a few ads waiting for your approval. Make sure to visit before you approve their sites, while there be sure to click on their “drop yours” card.
This service is fantastic if you are looking for a few hundred page views for free. Blogs that are just starting out with no budget can get traffic without resorting to forum and comment spam. In my case, I decided to feature my new site Computer Tech News. I uploaded a picture, added the code, and approved all the incoming adds. Then I quickly clicked “drop yours” on 50 sites. If you don’t want to look around each site, you can do this very quickly. I also started to spend my credits and bid on 5 lower cost ads which are waiting to run, with 22 credits left over. Here are my Entrecard quick stats after all that:
| 22 credits in your account | 2 credits to advertise on your blog |
| 50 cards you dropped | 7 cards dropped on you |
| 0 clicks via ads you placed | 3 clicks from your blog to others |
| 0 ads you bought | 14 ads bought from you |
| 9 clicks from entrecard.com to you |
Potential negatives? Lots of traffic, but only for people looking for your “drop yours” box to click. Still, any traffic is better than no traffic. If your site is good enough to make people stop their clicking spree and look, then you have done your job well.
Entrecard has been great! It is one of the top reffers on my site of over 3000 unique visitors!
I don’t understand though … I rarely see the “Drop Yours” button. In fact, hardly ever. When does it show up? I’ve checked at different times of the day.
If you don’t have an entrecard account, you may see a gold bar instead that says “Get One”. Clicking on that will lead to entrecard.com. Thanks for pointing that out.
What do you see on the left side of the top ad in my right sidebar?
