At first glance the Top sites by advertising value in the CMF Ads control panel may appear confusing. Also known as the “Bargain Ads” page, these statistics are simply for traditional marketers who like to advertise on a “cost per ad view” basis. Just because a site has a price of 1 cr per ad, doesn’t mean it is the best bargain out there. Let’s look at each column in the following table from left to right..

#: Is the ranking from #1-#30 on the page. For the next set of 30 sites, click on page 2.
Publisher: The name of the website as registered by the owner.
Ads running on this site: The number of advertisers currently running ads on this site. All advertisers share widget views.
Estimated Total Widget Views for 30 days: Widget views are projected for a 30 day period based upon current data. Having a widget with 2 ads spots will double your widget views. The 4×4 widget will quadruple your widget views. (Hint for you competitive bloggers) This stat is not the same as unique visitors or page views, nor does it indicate the quality of the site’s traffic. All ads will only show once per widget, regardless of number of ad spots.
Estimated CPM: CPM refers to “Cost Per 1000″. This is the estimated dollar value of showing your ad 1000 times on a site.
Value Index: This is a number Ben and I came up with that shows bargains with a much greater precision that CPM, because it doesn’t round off to the nearest penny, but uses credits instead. Let’s look at the calculations for Evilwoobie’s site. (Ad running:1, Est. widget views:21,319, Current ad Price:3, # of ad spots on the site:1)
- Divide the Estimated widget views by the cost in credits: 21319/3=7106.33
- Divide that number by the # of Advertisers: 7106.33/1=7106.33
- Move the decimal point over 2 places: 71.06
Current Ad Price: The price in credits to buy a 125×125 ad on that blog for a 30 day period. A credit roughly translates into $0.25 US dollars.
Advertise: For CMF Members who are logged in, this is a direct link to that site’s page. You may place an ad on that site from there.
If you want even more price search options, click on “find ads” in the control panel. Then you can further sort results by niche or keyword. Any questions on the CMF Stats page feel free to ask here.
I was taking my the page views and dividing by ads and price – the math still does not quite work out. I’m missing something … I’ll figure it out!
Canuckle, my mistake, I have amended the formula above. Ad spots are already taken into consideration in widget views.
Lets look at your stats.
ad price 5, ads running 4, est views 62890.
Hey Turnip, you were mentioning that Widget Views is proportional to Widget Size. However, wouldn’t a larger Widget Size reduces the value of each ad?
If so, shouldn’t that reduces the Value Index instead of increasing it?
Am I missing something? Thanks in advance!
Ads stack and rotate. So if a publisher has a 1×1 widget and only one advertiser, the ad is seen 100% of the time. If there’s a 2nd advertiser, then each ad is only seen 50% of the time. Now if the publisher has a 1×2 widget and 2 advertisers, then each ad will still be seen 100% of the time.
You do make a point, that being the only ad on the entire blog makes the space more valuable because it is unique. However, I feel that’s a matter of opinion. True, having a choice of 30 ads may be overwhelming, 2 ads or 4 ads certainly isn’t. Also, publishers are free to have ads from other ad networks on their blog. Is their 1×1 CMF Ad lost among 20 ads from other companies a better value than a 1×2 widget on a blog with no other ads?
While your point makes sense, We can only conclude “how many times will my ad be seen per credit spent”. We can never vouche for the quality of the content, the quality of the traffic, and the number of ads from other companies. That’s why every advertiser should check out each site before placing an ad.
Hey Turnip,
Thanks for your clarification. I didn’t realise that the ads will be displayed on a rotational basis.

Thats for the tutorial, that clarifies my questions about whether having 2 ad spots on my blog would improve results on the bargain ads pages.
