Stolen content is a serious issue in the blogosphere.   Particularly for me, since my job at CMF Ads is to approve and deny every blog submitted.    If most of the content is original barring the occasional image or video, I let it slide.  (I’m talking to you, funny cat people).  If the majority of content is stolen, then I draw the line and reject the blog.  However, every so often I get a plagiarizer who submits their blog to  CMF  Ads and then flat out denies they stole any content.   This is one such exchange.

This Blog/article site is absolutely original and written by me. What makes you think this is not original? Please clarify. I repeat this is no duplicate content site.

No, I don’t knew Mr. Keats personally. Neither I knew Tagore or Wordsworth (personally that is). But we all know about any personality or any subjects by going through some information. Can you deny that? As far as I know paraphrasing is on in the blogging industry. Many sites accept articles if someone re-write a subject by his/her own way. I did just that. I never claimed that I’m a expert of any subject. Show me the proof that I said that. I never realized that it would be better to give the refs. in side my article. That is a point you made and I accepted it. But that doesn’t mean my article is not written by me or not original.
This is my personal article site. So few of my articles could have been published earlier on different sites. what’s the big deal? It’s my article after all not others.

Save me the speech; you are stealing other people’s content for profit. “As far as I know” that is theft. If calling you a liar and a thief is upsetting, so be it. You won’t be half upset as you are now if I contact the original authors and factoidz.com itself and asked them to explain why they approve your articles. “paraphrasing is in” is no more true than “cheating on taxes is in” or “drunken driving is in”.

Early this morning I was able to duplicate the missing Spike issue on CMF Ads.  First we ruled out members disabling javascript.  Those using ad blocking software would not normally be accounted for by most analytic programs.  Then we ruled out server error, both the clicker and advertiser were being properly counted.  Turns out it was an IE8 issue.

The Problem: The Spike URL used target=”_blank” as part of the URL.  FireFox had no problem opening the links from Spike in a new tab.  IE8, however, would open each URL in a new browser window.  Unfortunately, if you clicked two Spike URL’s quickly it would use the same window, not visiting the destination page at all.  This caused Spike traffic to not be recorded, and the visitor using IE8 may never have even noticed.

The Solution: We changed the URL to force a new window for each link clicked, even those using IE8.

Compensation: Since this screw up was on our end we feel some compensation is in order.  Based upon the percentage of users using IE8, all those who have purchased a CMF Spike will receive an additional 10 free clicks for each blog.  Too bad some took the opportunity to spam members’ blogs with “CMF Spike being nothing but drop and run traffic” when they didn’t have all the facts.  This was an unfair attack upon CMF publishers.  If you don’t like Spike, don’t use it, but don’t dare use it for spam or heads will roll.  We apologize for any inconvenience this error has caused and will continue to improve all aspects of the CMF Ads network whenever an issue presents itself.

According to my dashboard at CMF Ads, in under 3 days CMF Spike sent it’s 50th visitor to my blog.  Below is a chart of the traffic received from Spike.  Considering it was Christmas Eve, a time traditionally dead for blogging, I consider these results quite promising.  In addition to the 35 Spike visits, there were also 12 visits from the CMF forum.  The biggest mystery (until I ask Ben) is why WordPress Stats only recorded 35 visits instead of the true 50.  Obviously, the plugin won’t count my own visit, leaving a gap of 14.

Now let’s take a look at how Google Analytics views CMF Spike traffic.

As you can see, I received exactly 50 visits.  If Google doesn’t count my own visit, this still leave 11 Spikes unaccounted for.   I am going to attribute this discrepancy to “Drop and Run” traffic or visitors who have an ad blocker installed.  Since the Analytics code is in the footer, the entire page has to load before it counts the visit.  So what if 11 people chose not to stay and read.  38 visitors from Spike spent an average time on my site of over 2 minutes.  Their bounce rate was lower than my other traffic (mostly search engine) by 7%. 

Bottom Line:  The 50 visitors Spike sent from CMF Ads were mostly high quality.  64% of the traffic was considered “new”.  The 12 additional visits from the forum made up for the 12 Spike drop and run visitors.  A 12% surge in traffic over the Christmas holiday was well worth the $0.20 it cost me.
