In typical asshat fashion, former Million Dollar Wiki boy blunder Graham Langdon has banned the Turnipofpower.com account from Entrecard for using the Twitter service. In addition, he is censoring all negative tweets regarding his own service. Funny how he suddenly has time to monitor his long neglected business when it comes to defending his hat, but not to help the thousands of members scratching their heads when it comes to customer service. Looks like I won’t be able to give away my worthless Entrecard credits as planned. Let’s follow the amusing series of events.
1. Graham posts about how he will autopost all twitter posts mentioning Entrecard on his blog.
2. After giggling like a school girl, I decide to see if this is really the case and make the following tweet: “Is that asshat from Entrecard still wearing his asshat?”
3. Sure enough, my post appears in the Entrecard Sidebar as shown below.
4. A few minutes later my tweet vanishes. Poof!

5. I check the blog and see Graham has edited his original post to include the following quoted portion “Just a quick note that Entrecarders are expected to be on their best behavior. Any intentional use of profanity or harassment directed at other Entrecarders or Entrecard Staff using Twitter will result in immediate account deletion. We have a zero tolerance policy for harassment at Entrecard.”
Wow, so a content scraper autoposting tweets seems to think he can dictate what appears on another social network, when he can’t even take care of the spam on his own network.
6. Trying to log in, I see my account has been deleted. Apparently, mentioning Entrecard negatively on another social network is now cause for deletion. This is not the first time Graham Langdumb has deleted long standing members in fits of anger. Anyone remember firestorm? So now I try to post my grievances on the EC forums, and they are all down. Typical crappy service.
Sad to read the news Turnip. Will be watching with interest and thanks for all those drops
Woa! (I just wrote a very good remark here, involving Goebbles, but deleted it. I don’t mess with vindictive people in bad hats).
Anyway – I still use EC for whatever residue traffic I can tweak out of it from my former months of dropping. I’m full of admiration for you Tulip, that you’ve persevered for so long…
I will be back.
Oh yes – and thanks for all the drops from me too. I haven’t dropped back for a while, but as an avid subscriber, I do read you.
so apparently Graham states that all who offend anyone, even regular users of EC get banned for insulting. Funny, I know of one who sent me some pretty nasty comments after insulting my friends there and still plays in Grahams sandbox. That is why I left.
Isn’t it freeing not to have to drop? Now I have time to enjoy the blogs.
He obviously likes his hat. However, his avatar has since changed so you cannot see it clearly.
The forums were already starting to get boring and now this.
Turnip,
You will be around long after EC is gone. Maybe this is what was needed to get you out of the kiddie pool and into the deep end – you have the talent to do so much more. I look forward to it.
By the way, I just noticed that your top 5 posts are EC related. That’s a bit of irony.
I guess it makes the decision about whether to leave Entrecard better.
I’m starting to feel that it’s not worth it to drop constantly. I’m often on a slow connection, so it takes hours to drop 300 cards. This puts me one step closer to leaving EC.
Most of the blogs on there (incl. the very popular ones) are bs blogs anyway. Poorly written and full with payperposts.
In the words of Lyndon B. Johnson, “It’s probably better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in.”
You’re now officially outside the tent. I wonder if someone tweets this if they’ll join you outside the tent.
I all but stopped dropping, and my site is more popular on the site as ever. Not by their popularity scale, but by ad credit price.
I just noticed this in the forums:
i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj227/thammerlund/2008-12-05_223348.png
Profanity on Twitter is not OK, but nudity on EC is OK?
I have not used EC long but have realized that the ‘traffic’ is suspect. Also, why the huge 1/8th fee for transfer of credits?
Getting banned for a Tweet? Yikes. Sorry dude.
Be blessed.
Bruce
Turnip this is outrageous and totally uncalled for! You and your blog have played a big part in Entrecard with your blog posts and input on the forums. Graham has grossly overreacted and he should re-instate you immediately with an apology. I shall miss your daily drop on me and good luck to you! It would not surprise me to see a mass exodus from Entrecard at this rate.
Wow, 60 comments!!! This big news is surely worthy of such a large ripple in the blog-o-sphere.
Turnip,
This is pretty funny, but I’m laughing out loud at the fact that the forums have been SELECTIVELY closed.
Sure, the “support” and “community” forums are down, but there are plenty of people crying out for attention in the “introductions” forum.
I guess people can go there to announce that they’re leaving forever.
Oh I don’t know. All this attention should raise the value of EC exponentially . I wonder if the hat will be included in the sale?
I would say that is the nail in the coffin, somehow he ‘G’ thinks censoring negative comments somehow wont have major backlash.
Whoahh! Turnip, one of the pillar members of Entrecard is banned! LOL. I was actually expecting you get banned soon. You can’t mess up with Entrecard and the almighty Graham.
You have to beg so they will give you back your account. Just a tip. LOL
Oh that is bullshit, after all the help you provide, all the services in the forum, and they ban you. Pure hilarity….EC is starting to feel itself a little too much. I go away for a month and now Entrecard is no longer broke? I mean when I was there last time, Graham was crying about maybe having to sell…hmmm, so messed up.
@Phone Girl, was that before or after he was whining about being homeless? His personal life seems to be mirroring his online persona and if I were a potential buyer I’d avoid that site like a plague. The negative publicity continues to mount while he shares his melt down publicly. He is a whiny, silly prat who is destroying something that had the potential to be good that now is not worth a pot to pi$$ in all because of his mismanagement and obnoxious behavior. When he started up awhile ago I dibbs on EC being gone by the end of the year and now it looks like I won’t be too far off. He is the laughing stock of the internet! The sad thing is when EC goes the way of Blog Rush he won’t even be able to leave a sincere message that he tried.
Just decided that I’ll be leaving Entrecard.
Really hoping to retain my regular visitors and commenters. If I spent the amount of time I take to drop each day, on properly marketing my blog, I’d get a lot more valuable traffic.
This bulls**t just isn’t worth it.
I hope more will realize this and will follow. Let’s stay in touch via Twitter.
I am late in here…
I can say one word, though:
SPARTAAA!!!
This is such a timely post…I was debating today whether to take my entrecard widget down. It seems worthless, I get more traffic from stumbleupon and organic search anyway. You’ve help to solve that dilemma.
Dude did you a favor in the long run.You might miss it for a second like I did Blogcatalog when they choose a scumbag snitch over me,but I have done much better without all those lame ass jerks on there
MUCH Better
Ah well; if you make a big game of this – you also have to accept the results out of it…
I do think it was a funny one; on the other side….. = doing this kind of stuff to just try to upset people….. – at one point you will get kicked back uh..??
And that is what happened…..!
Personally I would not have given you a ban…..
But I do think you knew the risk of it… and hey…. it got you some traffic uh…??
Graham should have sold when he had the chance. He doesn’t have the guts to run a business with a profile like EC.
Of course, maybe he can suck the life out of it, and he’ll be forced to sell it for a bargain. That would be the real kicker.
Wow … haven’t checked out his useless forums in a long time, but none of this is surprising. I had accumulated over 54,000 Entrecredits and he deleted one of my linked blogs (the email said). When I tried to log in, I discovered all my blogs and my Entrecredits along with them had been deleted … these are Entrecredits that I earned and paid cash for. After many communications with Phirate, none of them has ever been restored to their rightful owner. Beware of investing any money in Entrecredits. Graham Langdon is just a scam artist who can’t take the heat when confronted on his crap so he just censors, thinking that will make it all go away. From his wiki failure to his Entrecard failure … can’t wait to see what business model he drives into the ground next.
OMG, if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Negative comments are part of any business. In fact, taking a negative and turning it into a positive is what good businesses should be doing.
Shame on Entrecard.
Keep up the good work, Turnip………..:)
sbucciarel: Only 54,000 credits? I had over 230,000 credits in my account when it was deleted. Since I hadn’t bought any of the useless advertising in months, they just kept adding up. Gone without warning. Some of those credits I earned from selling real goods like t-shirts in the mismanaged Entrecard shop. Is that how you run a business?
Turnip, I am very upset about this. I just went to the EC blog and left the following comment:
I don’t know. It just seems to me that someone ought to receive a warning before they are banned from Entrecard. Turnip did not deserve to be banned without warning. I read Turnip’s blog post about this and he said he did a quick tweet just to see if it would show up and a few minutes later, he was removed from Entrecard. I don’t think it’s right. Turnip of Power didn’t deserve that. I also don’t like the idea of any kind of censorship of free speech. It’s anti-American. Harrassment is one thing but telling Entrecarders they can’t criticize another Entrecarder or Entrecard staff is just plain stupid. I’m just sayin’. I’m afraid you’re going to lose a lot of great Entrecarders over this which to me is very very sad.
Thanks for all the drops. I’m disgusted and disheartened. Entrecard has so much potential (and you’ve done so much for the site) but since this has happened to you and so many people are leaving, I’ll probably be following suit. You didn’t need Entrecard but Entrecard needed you. I’m subscribing to your site to keep up with you. Take care.
Laura: I too am disgusted. I appreciate all your support and the support from others I have received. Good luck trying to use common sense to argue with someone who has been in damage control mode for 3 days. Things are getting very wacky over there in EC land.
Graham should reimburse you 230*$6 for the lost credits
Or at least for the credits from t-shirt sales, since you made a financial investment.
sorry to hear. I better use all my credits today before they become totally useless as well. I’ve had my issues with EC as well.
Not every tech savvy community builder has the personal skills to deal with the people who inhabit the community. It’s really unfortunate that personal emotions seem to be driving/blocking EC’s development, because the concept is actually quite brilliant.
@Laura, while speaking out is good and everyone should by leaving a comment on EC will more than likely cost you your account. Now think about this and read the amount of credits that folks have lost. I firmly believe this is all part of Graham’s plan because what happens is those credits are basically lost but the site came ahead simply because you visited it. Graham is getting desperate and that is easy to see.
I was getting tire of all that card dropping anyway. I do like the hat, though.
Wow, that really is shit. I’m seriously thinking of giving EC the bullet from my blog. I will be interested to see if Graham has a change of mind and comes to his senses about his hissy fit censorship
Ian: I wouldn’t expect to see any common sense soon. He and his followers seem to think I am somehow behind every negative comment posted on the web about Entrecard. They will continue embarassing themselves publicly.
Sorry to hear that, so much drama and censorship! It’s very immature in my opinion.
Turnip, my friend. You and I have been dropping on each other since the beginning (almost) of EC. I have always thought a lot of you and have always told you that. I am so sick about the asshat that owns entrecrap. What a DICK! I am glad I am subscribed to you so I can keep up with you. I took a picture of me wearing MY turnip shirt and posted it on my blog. I was told it would be a collectors item now that you were gone. I have a wordpress blog that I do not use. I may have to come and join you although I don’t think the free wordpress will let me. Will it?
Etta: CMF Network is for everyone. Don’t confuse CMF ADS with the CMF Network. They are separate. Come over to http://ec-ads.com/direct/index.html and join today. Any blog is welcome as long as its not spam. I’ll be stopping by to check out your shit now.
I’m sorry you were banned from Entrecard, Turnip. I had good things to say about Entrecard, even though I had thoughts about removing the widget for other reasons…seeing what was happening is giving me a second thought.
well that totally sucks.
tweeted and retweeted for christmas amusement… Asshat!.. aaaaahahahahahaha
Merry Christmas Paul. I found this little gadget you might find amusing: http://rumandmonkey.com/widgets/toys/namegen/11760/
Wow.
Dang!! I wondered what had happened to all the good people around EC. Now I should look into that CMF thing, huh? I’ve seen it on a couple sites now.
Just posting a reply to SG Entrepreneur, who thinks this discussion is taking place on the EC forums, and knows full well Turnip can’t reply there:
“You can tell that Turnip has also moderated the comments so that only those who agreed with him are on it.”
No, I think it’s more that most people are appalled by what happened here. Those who disagree with Turnip either didn’t comment at all, or perhaps didn’t want to get involved, or posted on the EC forums where Turnip can’t reply.
You only have to search around to see several other bloggers also wrote about this incident. Those people blogged about it with an unbiased view and still came to the same conclusion: that while Turnip’s comment was not particularly mature, people have got away with far worse on EC. And do you really think the commenters would get deleted for not agreeing with Turnip when it’s not even his blog they’re commenting on?
Ben, Singapore SG is a troll. He lurks in the EC forums looking for cheap shots to try and take at me because I made him look like a horse’s ass. He claimed to be conducting an unbiased scientific experiment, while announcing it to the world. I’ll post my akismet graphs for that time period for everyone to see. Let them take the discussion here if they must carry on.
Well, seeing as I now have everyone’s attention…
Back in December I requested deletion of my Entrecard accounts as I wanted to leave. A few days passed. Nothing happened.
Then Graham wrote a long post (see grahamlangdon.com for the scoop) about “leadership in the web 2.0 space” and that people should cut him some slack. I commented to highlight some serious failings (which are still as large as life). His reply to me, where he said “and this is what I’m talking about”, was absolutely disgusting. With that one comment he basically treated me as though I’d always been a thorn in his side, and I’d never helped EC one bit.
That couldn’t be further from the truth. I did five months of mod/admin work for EC, I believed in the service for a long time, but there WERE serious failings – such as Graham not replying to emails.
He seemed to think that the suggestions I posted on his blog would cost money to fix. So, I posted on Twitter saying “can someone please tell Graham that replying to emails doesn’t cost anything?” He replied saying he “always” replied to emails – “don’t know what you’re talking about”.
You’re joking right? How many people emailed about blog posts and never got a reply? I emailed him a few weeks prior to say I was extremely unhappy about having to do contest transfers because they took so long to do – he never replied to that.
And guess what. A few minutes later I got two emails from Entrecard, saying that my blogs had been deleted, reason: “no widget”. Of course, I had already removed my widgets, but Graham didn’t even bother to check that I’d REQUESTED deletion – and instead decided to boot me out of the system for what can only be described as CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
This is not even close to calling him an “asshat” on Twitter. I’d just like to point out how he treats someone who was always a huge supporter of Entrecard when they give him some genuine feedback he simply doesn’t want to hear.
I may have moved onto other things, but I am utterly appalled and disgusted by his completely unprofessional behaviour. And that’s putting it nicely.
I’d love to see the other side of the story, what Graham has to say about all these. But I guess he won’t be coming here and say what he wants to say? (not that you guys want to hear it openly anyway?)
He posted on his blog. His response is “he can do what he wants”. It’s interesting to note I have seen him use the word “ass” in his own forums since then. Go back to December 4th 2008 and look for all the consecutive damage control posts, forum spam posts he made to bury the topic, and all the spam tweets he made. In fact, it’s a lot like today!
hmmm…
As a member of ec I decided to add my third blog. Its a blog for women who blog, sort of directory/community (its new)
Anyway it was rejected- reason given- nudity
I don’t know for sure what they term as nudity but I didn’t think my blog contained any – sure there is a woman but she’s not naked?
oh well- guess Ill just change my whole blog so I can use ec…..
I also lost 80 dollars worth of EC.
