Turnipofpower.com celebrates it’s 3 month anniversary today. Still no Google PageRank, but at least the Alexa numbers are up. 1,500,040 a month ago to 220,128 today, with daily numbers around 50k. Readers and comments are way up thanks to Entrecard, so everything’s rosy in Turnip’s garden. Let’s get right down to the dollars and sense cents.
For November and December I reported an average monthly profit of $40. Here’s how Dec. 19th to Jan 18th shaped up.
Expenses: $61.93 Total Expenses
- $6.95 1 Month Hosting at Bluehost.com
- $40.00 Advertising Deposits
- $10.65 Adwords leftover spent
- $4.33 Display ad
Earnings: $74.61 Total Earnings
- $2.37 Various Click Ads (Adtoll, Project Wonderful, Bidvertiser Crapvertiser)
- $10.62 Unused Advertising Deposit
- $27.74 Adsense
- $.93 Amazon.com
- $7.95 Commission Junction, Shareasale
- $25.00 Widgetbucks Signup Bonus
Analysis: Once again I won’t be quitting my day job. My websites made only $12.68 this month. Why? Christmas season ended, along with my AdWords campaign and affiliate profits. Thankfully, AdSense profits are way up. Most of the advertising costs were related to the launch of Tech.turnipofpower.com. I also earned some additional profit from Adbrite, but since I can’t log into their site, I have no clue how many pennies I earned there. Widgetbucks gives you $25.00 for signing up, but the money isn’t released until you earn $50 total. With over 11,000 Entrecard Credits stored up, that’s worth something too if I converted them to cash.
Predictions for next month? Adsense will continue to go up thanks to more readers. I’m going to throw some money toward Microsoft and use a voucher to get more free PPC advertising. I’ll make some Valentines Day landing pages this week and get the neglected Sales.turnipofpower.com cranking again. Some time soon I’m going to have a contest for a big prize. Just need a reason for it other than traffic, like some new multi-tier advertising service. Tech.turnipofpower.com is self sustaining and doesn’t suck up all my time. That allows me more time to fine tune the layout of Turnipofpower.com, respond to comments, and write more articles.
Congrats yo!
I have yet to make any major moves to attempt to monetize my site yet.
Want to rake in as much traffic as possible before I try that.
Gambate yo!
Cheers, mate
Happy Birthday!
I think you’re doing pretty good for 3 months old!
Kat
Thanks. Next post like this will be in 6 months, then 12 months. I also forgot to mention all my Qassia money, if that was real, I earned $2410 there in play money.
Congratulations on 3 months. It sounds like you’re already making a name for yourself after only a short time. Good for you!
I’m so proud of your Turnip! I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before you make a killing of of advertising on your site. Keep up the great work!
Thanks AVC and Princess. I have my killing planned, I’m just waiting for the right thing to promote.
Congrats! Your site has made an enviable jump on Alexa and has an incredible number of visitors for such a young blog.
Happy 3-month birthday Turnip! May you have many happy returns. I’m sure if we look hard enough we could find a recording of Donny Osmond singing Happy Birthday for you
Congrats! Mine is turning 1 month old on Wednesday
Great job for three months. I had to re-do an entire PR4 blog – that I did on wordpress dot com, not realizing they didnt take commercial sites, so, I have no pr now either!!
It will come though, great content here!
Sue, you can transfer your pagerank! Google how to do the proper redirect. Only problem is that the procedure mught require editing the .htaccess file, and I doubt WordPress.com allows that.
Happy Anniversary.
May your turnip always be powerful
Congratulations on 3 months! I am totally amazed at what you put together in just 3 months time. I am also surprised it’s ONLY 3 months. I haven’t sifted through the archives, but I just assume you power bloggers have been around forever!
I understand that 3 months is a pretty big anniversary, since some blogs don’t last past 25 days… keep the good stuff coming! Here’s to the next 300 months!
Thanks Claire and Mummy, I almost didn’t make 3 months. This blog and my others were just experiments. Yesterday I applied for a managment position, and the top skill I was selling was WordPress. Let’s see how much a corporation values bloggers.
Congratz! In 3 months, those are some VERY good steps.
But honestly, I wouldn’t rely on PR, they don’t mean as much as people think they do. But then again, that’s just my opinion. If you ever get a chance, feel free to read

Congratulations! I’ll say that result of yours is quite good. Even the big boys didn’t enjoy such early success. Wishing you better outing in the future. Cheers.
