Stretching across Internet time and space, the far reaching Performancing Ads Saga finally comes back home to Turnipfofpower.com. For those looking to update themselves, here are some dates and posts in the timeline:

Now, I won’t rehash all the issues brought up in those previous posts, but I will discuss some private conversations I’ve had with Chris Garret, the person currently in charge of Performancing ads.  I don’t want to re-post the emails verbatim, rather I’ll discuss the issues covered and the promises made.

09/26/2008 -Ryan of Performancing Ads promised in an email “Payouts will be made on October 1st to all people who meet the following conditions:

1.  Have earned the minimum payout threshold (which was lowered from $50 to
$10 since September, and is now user configurable from your user profile)
2.  Affiliate referrals for new advertiser signups
3.  Affiliate referrals for new publisher signups that have been active
publishers for at least 30 daysMy Comment: On October 3rd I received a Paypal payment of $103.75.  2 days later than promised, but with international timezones, no big deal.  The amount was less than I expected, but having been burned by other companies before, I was happy to see any money.

10/04/2008 - Chris Garret emailed me on October 4th inquiring if I had received payment.  He mentioned he was in charge as of October 1st.  My Comment: If Chris took over to clean up this mess, then there is no reason to be hostile to him.  I replied to his email asking why my payment was less than expected.

10/04/2008 - I received a 2nd email from Chris promising to look into my issues.  My Comment: Clearly damage control, but that’s why Chris was put in charge.  I appreciated his fast response and expected him to keep his promise to stay in touch.

10/05/2008 - Chris replied that his lead programmer had checked my account and that the number of signups that qualifed were correct. My Comment:This is the kind of customer service I expect from someone I do business with.  It’s not like I was owed $1.75.  I had 44 signups, 28 bookings, and several ads sold on my own blog.  I will say that Chris has restored my faith that Performancing Ads is an honest company, which is why I promoted them in the first place.

Final Thoughts: I still don’t know how Performancing Ads found themselves in this predicament.  They were a company that had big name bloggers lending their names to it.  With so many writers on board, couldn’t one write an update on the Performancing Ads website or their own blogs?  It wasn’t until their integrity was questioned that anyone received a response.  However, I firmly believe Chris Garret is doing an excellent job of assuring myself and others that Performancing Ads is not a scam.

I’m also not pleased with their policy of not paying people whose signups took down the ads before 30 days passed.  I had to go to all my friend’s sites to see if they too had white space where the ads used to be.  I thought Performancing Ads was hacked and who knew what might appear there next?  Sure enough, some very odd ads did appear on my site for $0.00!  Can you blame people for yanking their ads at that point?  Their programming screwup could have cost me up to $340 based upon 34 signups I haven’t received payment for yet.  We’ll have to see next time they send out payments if I receive another affiliate payout for November.

So, a few questions:

1. Did anyone who expected a payment not receive one, and also not receive a response when inquiring about that payment?

2. If you are mad, are you angry at: A) Performancing Ads   B) The affiliate marketers like myself, Problogger, John Chow, and others who promoted Performancing Ads?  C) Nobody but yourself.  D)  Graham Langdon

3. What do you think the proper course of action should be when you feel a company owes you money and isn’t responding to your emails?
