Stretching across Internet time and space, the far reaching Performancing Ads Saga finally comes back home to Turnipfofpower.com. For those looking to update themselves, here are some dates and posts in the timeline:
- 07/29/2008 - I first promoted Performancing Ads on The Social Networking Side Dish.
- 09/07/2008 - Ben Barden publishes Four week review of PerformancingAds
- 09/08/2008- eWritings publishes Performancing Lacks Performance.
- 09/26/2008 - I publish my own criticisms in Performancing Ads Affiliate News.
- 10/04/2008 - Entrecard Blog author Grey publishes Performancing Ads Scammed Me, Others. Problogger enters the conversation to back his co-writer Chris Garrett.
- 10/05/2008 -Ben Barden publishes PerformancingAds - Interview with Chris Garrett
Now, I won’t rehash all the issues brought up in those previous posts, but I will discuss some private conversations I’ve had with Chris Garret, the person currently in charge of Performancing ads. I don’t want to re-post the emails verbatim, rather I’ll discuss the issues covered and the promises made.
09/26/2008 -Ryan of Performancing Ads promised in an email “Payouts will be made on October 1st to all people who meet the following conditions:
1. Have earned the minimum payout threshold (which was lowered from $50 to
$10 since September, and is now user configurable from your user profile)
2. Affiliate referrals for new advertiser signups
3. Affiliate referrals for new publisher signups that have been active
publishers for at least 30 daysMy Comment: On October 3rd I received a Paypal payment of $103.75. 2 days later than promised, but with international timezones, no big deal. The amount was less than I expected, but having been burned by other companies before, I was happy to see any money.
10/04/2008 - Chris Garret emailed me on October 4th inquiring if I had received payment. He mentioned he was in charge as of October 1st. My Comment: If Chris took over to clean up this mess, then there is no reason to be hostile to him. I replied to his email asking why my payment was less than expected.
10/04/2008 - I received a 2nd email from Chris promising to look into my issues. My Comment: Clearly damage control, but that’s why Chris was put in charge. I appreciated his fast response and expected him to keep his promise to stay in touch.
10/05/2008 - Chris replied that his lead programmer had checked my account and that the number of signups that qualifed were correct. My Comment:This is the kind of customer service I expect from someone I do business with. It’s not like I was owed $1.75. I had 44 signups, 28 bookings, and several ads sold on my own blog. I will say that Chris has restored my faith that Performancing Ads is an honest company, which is why I promoted them in the first place.
Final Thoughts: I still don’t know how Performancing Ads found themselves in this predicament. They were a company that had big name bloggers lending their names to it. With so many writers on board, couldn’t one write an update on the Performancing Ads website or their own blogs? It wasn’t until their integrity was questioned that anyone received a response. However, I firmly believe Chris Garret is doing an excellent job of assuring myself and others that Performancing Ads is not a scam.
I’m also not pleased with their policy of not paying people whose signups took down the ads before 30 days passed. I had to go to all my friend’s sites to see if they too had white space where the ads used to be. I thought Performancing Ads was hacked and who knew what might appear there next? Sure enough, some very odd ads did appear on my site for $0.00! Can you blame people for yanking their ads at that point? Their programming screwup could have cost me up to $340 based upon 34 signups I haven’t received payment for yet. We’ll have to see next time they send out payments if I receive another affiliate payout for November.
So, a few questions:
1. Did anyone who expected a payment not receive one, and also not receive a response when inquiring about that payment?
2. If you are mad, are you angry at: A) Performancing Ads B) The affiliate marketers like myself, Problogger, John Chow, and others who promoted Performancing Ads? C) Nobody but yourself. D) Graham Langdon
3. What do you think the proper course of action should be when you feel a company owes you money and isn’t responding to your emails?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback **********Thanks for the links, Turnip. I’m very interested to see how PA fares over the next few weeks.
Hi Turnip
Whats weird is I included in my post last night,is blogging worth it? That I’m divorcing myself from ALL these 3rd party ad companies.
I’m not impressed with any of them.I found them to be cliquey, arrogant, rude and instead of them approving me it should be the other way around.
If you look at their offices etc they just profit off the hard work of bloggers.
They’re all scams all of them. They can doctor it up but that’s reality.
Oh and is blogging worth it ? Damn right it is;)but it’s not going to happen overnight and it’s alot of work but like everything else in life the harder you work the better it is.
Thanks
I signed up through you, but deleted all my widgets when you posted that you did not receive payments last Oct 3. I’m not happy of putting them back on. I guess I will have to see first if the continue to fulfill their obligations.
Keep us posted of developments.
Thanks.
This topic is old at this point, so I’ll be brief. You said, “It wasn’t until their integrity was questioned that anyone received a response.” I say, yup.
Either way I think Stan’s purpose was fulfilled; I for one will not be trying out performacing ads… even if they promise me rainbows and kittens.
I’ve filled my porpoise?
I signup with companies like this and pepperjam and others not with the intention of making money as it tends to take a while with any of them before the checks actually start rolling in… however, they do provide good blog fodder every once in a while…
By the by, you can advertise on my site for as little as $0.75 a week! what a deal!!
I joined PA but never got around to implementing the code. Good thing. I’ve been having success with Hydra & NeverBlueAds…
LOL Stan, your purpose with the blog post over on EC - even though you got edited I think the message still got to people that PA is no good.
I haven’t received my payment. I submitted their form on Oct. 1st and haven’t heard back from them. I had 10 signups in August.
That 30 day rule makes sense, but IT DOES NOT say that anywhere on their site! Not even today!
Also, just tried logging into my account and it says my password is incorrect. Then when I submit my email address, it says that it is not valid. Even though it’s the same one I’ve used to check my account for the last 3 months.
I’ve had limited success with PA - from a design standpoint there are a bunch of things just so wrong with the admin interface for one thing. I didn’t realize you could lower your payment threshold, I’ll have to do that to see if I can get a payment.
I received the money that was owed to me but the site was really unclear and poorly designed. I ended up getting paid very late in the game and thus dropped the service. I maye pick it up again at a later date. We’ll see, though.
