Performancing ads sure has a communication problem. Take a great idea, blast it across the Internet, then screw things up and make changes while keeping silent about the whole thing.
I love the concept. People selling ad space while getting exchange credits for running ads when their ad space isn’t sold directly. Set your own price and never have to touch the code again. What could go wrong?
Issue #1: The ads themselves started looking strange. One day I saw white space there. Next day I get a letter saying the ad space was sold for $0.00. A week later the ad vanished. Turns out those were the exchange ads. Looks like their coder has their head up their posterior. You’d think an ad agency run by such noted bloggers who put their name on the product might take 5 minutes to write one sentence on their blogs like “Performancing ads is experiencing server issues, please bare with us while we resolve the problem”. Nope. This is BS. Since their affiliate program pays after 30 days of showing ads, all they have to do is show porn ads on day 29 just to screw over all the affiliates. Would they intentionally shoot themselves in the foot? Who knows. Clearly the network is unprofessional. I had at least one person who signed up under me take down their ads thanks to their blank space crap. I can only guess how much money this coding fiasco cost me.
Issue #2: Their Affiliate Program promises a lot, but tells you nothing. I signed up 43 people, have 26 bookings, sold 3 ads of my own, and yet have seen nothing in the form of a check. Not even a scheduled payout. Forget transparency, this is invisibility. Get real or get out of the business.
Issue #3: Site navigation is a joke. I accidentally deleted my Turnipofpower.com account there today. The page that says “cancel” has two buttons. Guess what, no matter which button you pick deletes your site! Button one links to ”/site/delete/id/xxxx”, button two links to “/site/delete/id/xxxx”. You would think after 3 months one of their admins would have caught the error. Just one more method of screwing over their affiliates who had a signup accidentally delete before 30 days.
Response: So I emailed performancing ads, twice. The second time I got a response. I will post it here because it answers many questions I’m sure other affiliates are asking.
“Payouts will be made on October 1st to all people who meet the following conditions:
1. Have earned the minimum payout threshold (which was lowered from $50 to
$10 since September, and is now user configurable from your user profile)
2. Affiliate referrals for new advertiser signups
3. Affiliate referrals for new publisher signups that have been active
publishers for at least 30 daysBest,
Ryan
Now, I still have faith that Performancing ads is a good network. After October 2nd that opinion may change. Currently I have a wait and see attitude. I suggest everyone that has performancing ads on their site keep using them until October at least. I can’t believe an Ad Agency would willingly ruin their internet reputation by such foolishness as not paying affiliates. Come October 2nd, expect to read about this again.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback **********Ditto here. The only thing I can add is I complained to them about a month ago and I suddenly started getting ads bought from me. Now I’m not sure if this was hush money or this was legitimate. I am also waiting to hear on Oct. 1st.
To add another point Stan. They said I was owed $3.50 for bookings on my site. When I accidentally deleted my site, that balance changed to $0.00. I hate to tell them, but when a site is removed from the system, you still owe the money for past ad sales. Amateurs.
Hello turnip, I signed in under you and I indeed experienced what you were saying. I’ll wait till October 1, then if nothing happens , I will delete them. Thanks for the info. Do keep us posted of developments.
Thanks.
Someone bought an ad from me about 3 days ago and it hasn’t shown up on my blog at all. I also tried to change the default ads yesterday and nothing changed.
I emailed their support that night and haven’t heard from them.
This is why I read influential blogs like yours Turnip, so I can stay in the know. I just started up with Neverblueads (a totally different concept I know), but when I see sales/commissions rack up, I always get a jittery feeling, thinking, I hope I get paid at the end of the month.
Thanks for the great info I will try to keep at least one eye open on this.
I didn’t even bother with this one. Since this has een around since early ‘06 things have constantly swirled around the toilet. Now it finally looks like many others have realized that the network is garbage.
Sure does not encourage me to start with them… does anyone know other good alternatives. Neverblueads? Blogads? Others?
David: there are many programs out there, it depends what you are looking to do with the space. Do you want to sell it, put a pay per click ad there, pay per sale? I hve a few new things coming up tht I hope to talk about soon.
I signed up only about a month ago and I’ve been very unhappy from the start. I’ll see what happens to all of you after October 1st (I only have $5 so far so I won’t get paid anyway) and if I don’t hear good new then I am deleting them from my blog.
Jennifer: I’d lower your price to get the total to $10 they owe you, then make a decision. Always better to cash out with something if it’s not hurting you. You can just move their ads lower down the page.
I’m not an affiliate Turnip and at this point I don’t think I would even consider becoming one. I sold a 48 week ad 5 days ago. The ad has yet to appear on my site. In fact, after the ad was booked, the “Advertise her” banner disappeared completely. I immediately emailed support. No response. After 4 emails and 48 hours later, I get “We have a problem….” No kidding, really! I put the persons Ad up on my site myself, as a stop gap measure. As of today, the “Advertise Here” banner has returned, but no ad from my customer. Steer clear folks!
@john b at least they bothered to email you back. I’m having the same problem with ads showing, so it probably is system wide. You would have to think that they would put up a system message saying so instead of making people wait to hear back from their email.
I briefly tried Performancing Ads on my Blogger blog, but decided to go a different route for managing my ads when I switch to WordPress. Apparently it was a good thing.
yea, you realized it the hard way.
I did realize after a week that all they were doing were displaying chitika affiliated ads in my blog and was simply being fooled!
Took me 2 sec to decide that was it!
So, turnip, (since many do listen to you) whenever you promote: Promote carefully. It is painful sin to throw everybody to cold water along with you!
Dai: You still don’t understand the Chikita ads were put there by someone else and not performancing ad owners? I’ve seen you post this before. I can put the same chikita ad on your site using Project Wonderful or other system. I even made a post on how to do it. So it’s not a “they” it’s simply an advertiser doing it.
Now, as far as promoting things. I try everything I promote. When I have negative things to say, I say them. When I have positive things to say, I say them too. I don’t take responsibility for an Ad Agency changing their code a month later and screwing up the system. If/When they do that, I report it here, as I have done.
hmm, I know that; and I had sent u PM about the non C promotion you were running thru your affilate ads (thru wonderful).
(but it also indicates that chitika ads were runnin in there without making me a penny!… this is cheating: Bad business )
It is amazing that you can spit out both ways!
Keep kicking!
@Gary - It’s now been 8 days. The “Advertise Here” button has returned, but still no ad. I emailed them yesterday, but have heard nothing. And, of course, there has been no system message warning of any problems.
I’m now up to 44 joins and 27 bookings. Oct 2 is now here with no mention of payments being sent out. Time to start taking a look at the names of anyone related to this venture.
As you point out there have been a lot of problems. The system has clearly been experiencing growing pains and we made some mistakes.
I’m sure the main thing you are concerned about is payments. All payments should have gone out and completed last night - Please let me know if this is not the case.
“As you point out there have been a lot of problems. The system has clearly been experiencing growing pains and we made some mistakes.”
So the “system” cannot receive and reply to emails either? Seriously guys, i purchased your stats package as well which is down, and metrics not showing up half the time also. Same deal with the ads/payments and every time i submit a support email tumbleweed rolls past.
Either the whole thing is a scam, or whoever coded the place has zero clue. Either way i’ve canceled the lot.
@whoever is listening - In the interest of fairness, I wanted to pass on that my ad mysteriously showed up a couple of days ago. However, in what seems to be their Modus operandi, they didn’t bother to contact me and let me know the problem had been fixed. Or offer an apology. OR tell me to kiss their A??. Very disappointing.
