When I was young, Halloween was my favorite time of year. As kids we’d pick out our Halloween Costumes a month in advance. Then go trick or treating all day and night, getting huge pillow cases full of candy. As we got older, we’d only go at night, again for the candy. In college, Halloween parties were the best as well. No more candy, but we’d make some intoxicating punch, throw some dry ice into it, and dance the night away. One year I dressed up as the young Ernest Hemingway, another time as Fidel Castro, complete with glued on beard and a home-rolled cigar using a controlled dangerous substance that made me the hit of the party later.
Then it all stopped. My kids wear the costumes these days, but we only go to a few neighbor’s houses with our wagon. Our doorbell rings about 10 times during Halloween these days. 30 years ago it used to ring 100 times. I guess society is too dangerous for kids to be running around knocking on stranger’s doors. Since I don’t drink alcohol I don’t attend adult parties either. Seems the trend these days is to have kids costume parties. That way everyone stays safe while the candy intake is controlled.
However, a person can still dream. If I was to dress up in a Costume this year, what would I wear? First choice would be to make my own turnip outfit. That aside, I’d choose this nifty custom made Lobster Costume from Moon costumes. They offer over 10000 Halloween costumes, wigs, masks and accessories. Their site is easily searchable, with free shipping for orders over $100.
Why a lobster? Something about going around pinching people with my claws makes me giggle. It’s also rated G, so I don’t have to worry about corrupting young minds. Watch out for the “Lobster of Power”! Pinch, Pinch, Pinch!
How about you? If you could wear any costume of your choice, what would you wear?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback **********I’ve been saying for years that I’m going to dress up as a banana for Halloween, but I don’t think it will be this year either.
Last year I just walked around houses in my girlfriends parents neighborhood with her brothers and sister. We probably hit about 15 houses, but we walked maybe two miles in total… was pretty sad to see. I didn’t get to dress up…
This year, I want to hand out candy. So I’ll have to see what will happen.
Living out here in the country like we do, we never see any kiddies for Halloween. As for myself, well, the only costumes that would fit my figure right now would be a pumpkin or a turnip

Well, I can’t go as Lady Godiva this year, as last late fall I cut my hair from down-to-there to chin length…so I’ll have to think about it.
I’m not sure what I want to dress up as…I may hit some haunted houses…
To this day, I have always wanted to be a box of Saran Wrap or Reynold’s foil…pretty unique, huh? And is that a Purnip up there???
an easy one is to put my hair in curlers, put a green face mask on, and a giant bathrobe. Kids like that one — my husband has a shirt that he sewed a bunch of spiders and tarantulas on — just on the back, so people think he doesn’t know he’s got spiders on his back — fun!

Edit: Please don’t spam my blog. I know you downloaded some crappy eBook telling you how cool it is to slip links into your comments, but it’s not cool. You are welcome to comment, you get one link which should be to a blog, and not a landing page.
Linda: No idea what that is. I found out that the original Jack-o-lanterns were made from carved turnips, so I made my own.
I still haven’t decided what I want to be this year but for once I think I’m going to try and pick something warm - so that means not sexy. Unless I pick Lara Croft Tomb Raiders outfit when they were in that cold weather… but where on earth am I going to get that coat?
If you do go as a lobster, can you please, please post pictures?
Dressed as a Lobster is a great idea.Another one I’d like someone to try is Scorpion from Mortal Kombat…The cool outfit complete with slithery ropes outta the palms
