I’m proud to announce the release of The Electric Car Blog located at http://Zapyx.com.  As the title suggests, this blog will feature information on electric car companies, news on electric vehicle technology, and a wealth of personal experiences and interviews.   In the near future I hope to purchase my own electric car, and this blog will explore my journey towards making that decision.

I had forgotten how much fun it is to start a new blog.  Choosing a theme, installing WordPress and all its plugins, then customizing the hell out of it to get the website functioning exactly as you envisioned it.  It’s like being a kid in a candy store.  You want every feature from every blog you ever enjoyed reading.  Below you can see the efforts of my work.  The theme used is a highly customized version of Box-Tube Theme By Dezzain Studio.

The Electric Car Blog

Previously located at this domain was my tech blog Computer Tech News.  I have now officially retired that blog.  For those who didn’t know, that blog was my proof of concept auto-posting blog.  It pulled in the feeds of several tech sites, posted the excerpts on my blog linking to the original, and then automatically deleted the posts after a certain number of months.  It was good for like $5 a month of advertising income.  In theory you could make one of those sites for 500 different niches, and then sit back and collect the revenue.  Almost…  It represented no challenge, was boring as hell, and just added to the spam of the Internet.  That’s not entirely true.  Once my blog was set up, I never had to visit the other 10 sites that I pulled feeds from unless the article was really good.  So in a sense, Computer Tech News was like a personal RSS feed reader that earned me some advertising income as well.  I loved it for what it did, read it myself daily, but now it’s time to move on.

Now, back to The Electric Car Blog.  It’s been in it’s current state for 4 days.  Traffic went from 6 visitors the first day, 27 the second day, 255 the 3rd day.  I’m hoping today’s visitors top that even.  I promoted it the real way by announcing it in the Entrecard introductions forum, reciprocated all Entrecard drops, and stumbled it once. (yes, I stumbled my own post  :( )  Today I advertised on every single site in the automotive category, costing a total of 6k credits.  Then I followed up each ad with a visit to every site in the auto niche and dropped a card.  Just my way of saying “hello”.

What I found dropping cards was a mess.  I guess I’ve been spoiled by using my own droplist all these months.  The automotive category claims to have 260 blogs, but in reality there were only 114.  I reported four more dead links in that category, so subtract those too.   So much spam!  It dawned on me that if Entrecard would charge a dollar a month for a premium account, where only select blogs could join, I would gladly pay for that privilege.  Today Graham announced he had a plan to monetize Entrecard in the near future, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

I hope you all stop by The Electric Car Blog and check it out.  It’s far from finished, but go ahead and give me your opinions.  You all know how well I take the slightest criticism.
