Performancing Ads is a new advertising network from SplashPress Media. It works like a cross between an Ad server like Project Wonderful and a blog link exchange. Using a credit system and 125×125 ads, it reminded me of Entrecard, only without the social networking part. Bottom line: Both systems work very well together, as the page views from Entrecard earn you credits to use in Performancing ads.
Similarities and Differences
- Both networks are based on 125×125 sized ads. In Entrecard, your ad points back to your own blog, in Performancing Ads, your ad can point to any page you want.
- Both networks give you credits. Entrecard gives you credits for dropping and receiving cards. Performancing Ads gives you credit for pageviews and for people advertising on your site.
- Entrecard pays you in credits when someone buys an ad on your site. Performancing Ads pays you in dollars when someone buys a weekly ad.
- Entrecard allows you to spend your credits freely. Performancing Ads automates the credit system, so they can’t be traded or sold.
- Performancing Ads has an affiliate program, paying $10 a signup. Entrecard doesn’t.
Here is how to add it to your site:
- Signup with Performancing Ads. You only sign up once even if you have multiple blogs. Your password will be emailed to you immediately.
- Click “Add a site” and enter your blog URL along with 3 categories that best describe it.
- Click “Add a region”. Here you pick the number of ads you want displayed. Say you wanted a 2×2 grid of 125×125 ads. You can have as many as 7×7 125×125 ads. If you want space between each ad, specify the vertical and horizontal pixels. Check off “No Follow” if you don’t want Google to follow that link.
- Download the file that contains the widget and upload it to your plugin folder. If you aren’t using WordPress, there are instructions for other systems like Drupal 6.x, and Joomla. Activate the plugin and add the widget to your sidebar. Alternatively, you can add the php snippet to your template directly. When you add the widget, click on settings and enter the code number for that ad space you receive in an email. Save your sidebar setting. It’s really very simple.
- Now for the fun part. Click on “Exchange Ads” and “Create new”. Rather than being forced to display an ad for your blog, you can run any ad. Affiliate offers, contest offers, ads for Amazon, whatever you please! Your ad will run on other people’s blogs, and their ads on yours. For an example, see tech.turnipofpower.com. All the ads below the Entrecard are from Performancing Ads.
My advice: Run a single Performancing Ad right next to or under your Entrecard ad and you will benefit under both systems.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback **********I signed up using your link and I already had someone buy an ad from me. In like an hour. Woo-hoo! Turnip’s a genius!
Fantastic Stan! you have a nice pagerank 4 blog. I’m tempted to advertise there myself.
Thanks for outlining a comparison and highlighting the differences between EC and Performancing Ads. Performancing Ads sounds like it has a lot of potential and allows a lot more flexibility as to the type of advertisement you want to display on your own site/blog.
Turnip, forgive my stupidity, but you mention you can “Check off “No Follow” if you don’t want Google to follow that link.” Do I want Google to follow or not?
Let me know, then I’ll click your ad and sign up.
Thanks!
I’m gonna try this one.
Thanks for sharing.
Thx Turnip just signed up, PW has been mailed. I also submitted this post to Entreview…
Carole: I’d check off “nofollow”. If someone wants to make the ad “do follow”, let them pay for it. I’m always open to negotiatins. This way I don’t leak pagerank to a company that I have no idea how Google will view the relationship.
Thank you to everyone that gave it a try. I added performancing ads to this blog as well. I figure for those who use project wonderful, a chance at $5-$20 a month is better than a guaranteed .30 a month from PW.
Turnip, you’re welcome to advertise any time. Just let me know when you’re going to so I can move the ad right there next to the Entrecard widget. For you? Prime real estate!
They don’t accept Blogspot blogs. Bummer. Oh well.
I think it’s because you need to upload a folder to the server, and then use either a line of php code or sidebar widget to display the ads. You could still join their affiliate program and run their ads, but it’s not as useful as the advertising program itself.
Thanks for that post Turnip, I’m going to check them out after reading what you’ve had to say.
I signed up, but was disappointed when I found I had to run some php script on my web server. I don’t think php and asp.net go too well together. I will have to get some more information and make sure it’s okay to have them run on the same Windows based server.
Plus, what is this about having to load code on your own server anyway? Haven’t these guys heard of javascript and iframes? I am gonna have to create my own advertising company. Then maybe I will quit complaining so much about the other guys.
I signed up, but found my self mega confused in the installation. Yeah, I know, I’m archaic and still use blogger, but to tell you the truth for a site using blogger, I’ve un-bloggered my blog. Errr…. it doesn’t look like I use blogger. Anyhow, it’s a shame because I have no idea on how to install performancing ads on blogger.
kex + mel: I am not sure if it even works on blogger. It works like a traditional wordpress plugin. You upload a folder to your plugin folder, activate the plugin, and then add the widget to your blog. It doesn’t do much more than call home to get new ads, make sure the widget is running. Maybe they are caching the ads to improve performance.
I appreciate the signup Mel, even if you can’t use the plugin!
I will be looking into this tomorrow sometime. Thanks for the info, how did you get the turnips for the Sezwho widget, cute!
Thanks Phone girl, I made the icons myself.
I’d like to see this new ad network take off. It’s really going to depend on how many people choose to buy advertising through the network. As long as they can pull in some big name publishers, they should do ok.
Wonder if Entrecard has any similar plans for the future.
Thank You

Feel bad that it does not work for blogspot.

Moreover, there are no links to get disconnected…
Turnip? Just a silly question from a fool, can you have more than 1 region like upper right lowerleft? and Do you have to dl 2 diff widgets. Make sense?
Signed up and installed with no problems. Hopefully this will bring in a few extra bucks. Thanks!
Fool: You use 1 plugin folder uploaded to your server. When you log into performancing ads, you go to “create a new region” and create a 2nd region for your site. That region will have a unique number. Then you add that region into your sidebar using a widget, or into your theme using a line of php code. There is no limit to the number of regions you can have.
I have to agree with those who are unhappy that it requires PHP. I use my own CMS and I deliberately do not allow PHP in templates. Most sites I have used only ask you to put JavaScript on your site. This kind of thing should not require PHP.
It is a huge letdown for me because I heard PerformancingAds are very good and I really wanted to use them. I emailed them about it, but it’s been a few days and they haven’t replied to me yet.
Very disappointed.
This is really interesting. I really enjoy using entrecard. I have found alot of really useful blogs. But I will check this out as well.
OK Turnip, you convinced me to signup so you have a new referral. I’m currently using OIOpublisher on my best blogs but I’ll give this a shot on a few of my newer comedy blogs and see what happens.
Dave: Thanks, I lowered the price on my blog to $4 a week but still haven’t sold a spot. I’ll have to find the sweetspot for this blog. Hopefully you have better luck.
Just wanted to come back with an update…when I got rejected by Performancing Ads I sent them a note expressing my disappointment that they don’t support blogspot blogs, and lo and behold the other day I got an email saying they now DO support blogspot blogs and it contained special code to work on Blogger. So I tried it and there it is on my page! Kudos to them!
Carole: Fantastic! I think this might even be my next post. I have an old blogspot blog kicking around somewhere and can do another tutorial.
