So claims Entrecard owner Graham Langdon regarding the new partnership between Sezwho and Entrecard. Entrecard is a combination social network, blog advertising service, and traffic exchange. Sezwho is a comment and post rating system that can be easily installed by using a WordPress plugin. It also works on other blogging platforms, with new ones being added daily. According to Graham, the following are the main benefits of the partnership for bloggers:
The benefits of participating are:
Seeing my comments shoot up today, he may be right. Anything that slows down the bounce rate and causes members to actually read posts is a step in the right direction. How long that trend lasts will be the deciding factor, as participation is optional. To encourage participation, Entrecard has announced a Mystery Contest where you can win up to 5000 credits.
Turnipofpower.com is already using Sezwho to rate it’s comments. Those nifty looking turnips you see below each comment are a customized icon set for Sezwho. As a special bonus, I will be offering a custom set of Entrecard Icons for free! You can see them below. To make life simpler, I will add them to a zip file with instructions HERE.

Note: If anyone wants a custom set made, I am charging 5000cr or $15 to make the 2 graphics. Seeing as how Graham is giving away 5000cr in his contest, you all have credits to burn! Go check out the one’s I made for Fantasy Baseball and Evilwoobie.com.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback **********Those Entrecard SezWho ones look great. Graham should be using those on the Entrecard blog instead the common star ones.
You know he would have to pay for commercial use, which costs a bazillion dollars. Maybe I would consider one of those charity links he gives to crappy Entrecard related sites that make believe they did something for the community, but always seem to have a backlink to their own site included.
I’ve spent all afternoon trying to upload this into my wp/content file with no luck. Any suggestions??
Ooooooo, can you make butterfly ones?
Nessa
Just learned about the sezwho thing today. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works; in the meantime, I’m headed over to check out your contest. C ya *big hug*
Those are nice! Well, I didn’t see Woobie’s. *ahem* But the two sets I did see are cool.
I just posted instructions on how to change the default avatar for this thing. I probably should’ve charged for it, huh? *sigh* I’ll never learn.
Those look nice - but can you do animated gif’s in photoshop? Don’t you need that other prgram for that? Imageready?
Acadia: I can do anything I please. No imageready needed, real photoshop users know how to import animated gifs. And don’t make the next amazing race question “How do I import animated Gif’s into photoshop?”
Jenny: The avatar racket is all yours. I don’t like them and turned them off on my blog. You could charge for making the 48×48 image. It’s not always so easy to make a large picture smaller. Sometimes you have to edit it pixel by pixel. Woobie is being lame and hasn’t installed her set yet. I promise you they are nice!
Hmmmmm nice topic…
Underwhelmed. Was expecting something much bigger. Weren’t you, Turnip? I have sezwho already and I’m skeptical.
I just like to tinker and this reminds me I never changed the default icon for sezwho, though theoretically I knew you could. Now that all of EC is using it I’ll have to differentiate myself. I can make my own thank you very much. I don’t think propeller beanie dork will shrink down nicely to that small a size but I’ll think of something.
Dorkage: Kill two birds with one stone. I see you also need a favicon. Use the same image for both the favicon and the sezwho icon. I made custom icons for exactly that reason. The default stars made me sick after seeing them on a few sites and wanted something different.
As for expecting something bigger, at first I was. Then it seemed like the announcement was played down a bit. When Graham started asking “how many comments can you make in an hour” questions, I was pretty sure this was the partner.
For those requesting custom icons. I may hold a contest soon to give away a free custom set. Anything is possible, but it may not look so good when it’s 20 pixels wide.
I like the partnersip deal… hopefully everything works out for everyone. SezWho seems to have some small bugs that need to be fixed, ASAP! I also with it was a bit more customizable… but hopefully these things come with time.
I know how to turn an image into a tiny size, I just have to figure out how to implement it!
I think every EC blog is participating in the “Secret Contest”. I’ve seen posts about the SezWho partnership EVERYWHERE!
absolutely Turnip, you are right I need a favicon as well. I was just thinking that myself but butt kicks are always good. Great minds think alike, and it occurred to me to just forget the face and just have it be a tiny propeller beanie. One thing you might have guessed especially if you read my last post is that I am a musician both genetically and by training. I belong to the approximately 4% of the population that are primarily auditory and kinesthetic, so such things don’t seem particularly important to me, but I know that they are to others, and blogs are written for others. My butt has been officially kicked. So what I’m wondering now is how do I get to my glorious sezwho profile like in the example?
I have just installed SezWho, but had an issue along the way. This is the first time I’m using it, and so far I like their support.
They have helped me solve my problem and now, hopefully everything starts to work.
As for ratings graphic, I’ll let you know about that one. I want to try it for myself first.
sorry guys, ill install it asap!
small update to the .zip file, redownload it to get the .txt file with the updated code. There were some extra ^M’s for no reason at the end of some lines.
I’ve always liked the way you customize your site Turnip. The tip you have included in the Zip file is awesome. I was still deciding whether I will use Disqus ever since they released the “indexable” version for Wordpress. You made me change my mind. Thank you!
Wow, this sounds really cool considering I already leave comments on interesting blogs anyway. I’m a blogger user, though. Do they support blogger?
I think the partnership is a good one. The best thing of course is that it encourages more interaction between readers and blog writers.
Love your little turnips. I’ll have to save up and get a custom graphic done - tiny cauldron perhaps
Blogger is supported, but you have to follow the instructions.
Wordpress 2.6 works for some people, but not others. A fix is supposed to be released tomorrow to fix any issues with sezwho.
Thanks, Lady Rose. I plan to offer additional sets for download in the future. Maybe come Halloween you will get your wish.
Turnip — the little icons are cute; I’ll have to look into creating my own set.
Are you seeing many people actually rating posts and comments? I know I haven’t since I have had Sezwho for a little over a month now.
We’ll have to wait and see how much more comments it generates for you. I know on my book review site, I’m still waiting for that first one
ê¿ê
You have done a GREAT job setting this up, making it easy to use. And more comments can never be a BAD thing. RIGHT? Good job, turnipman!
my site receives lots of visitors and comments for just a day and I am loving it!..
to think that I just switch last monday to my own hosting site..
I’m pretty happy with the partnership. It’s nice to be able to see where else people are commenting etc - thats how i found this post.
I signed up for Sezwho a long time ago. It seems they were falling behind other similar services. This was a good thing for them to do.
I just signed up with Sez Who today, and it sounds like it will give all blogs a great boost in comments. And I love your turnip ratings - you’re so talented!
Turnip, I’m not one to go out and give up my hard earned EC for images I can create myself, but you get full credit for coughing up the coding and getting me started with the image sizes.
Anybody who wants to see the shamrock implementation should feel free to come on over and check it out.
Mike, I don’t blame you, but the price is high because I know exactly the work involved. It requires 15 minutes IF I have all the artwork ready ahead of time and just need to insert the layers. If I have discuss the project with the client, create the tiny images, edit them, explain to the client how to install them. We are talking 1-2 hours.
I will be giving out free sets in the future, and will also have some sort of contest too.
Your shamrocks look good, except the animation .gif shows a bit of a white box while cycling. I’m not sure if that was intentional or not.
For those wondering how to install the custom icons, directions are included in a text file with the download.
Thx turnip. Mind if I ask what browser you’re using? I’m not seeing a white box when it runs on FF or Safari.
yeah! its cool! i just found out about this just for a few hours and its rock!
I’m using IE7, when the animated gif shows, behind the highlighted shamrock there is a white background. I saw the same effect in Firefox. What you need to do is make the background transparent, or the color of your web background.
I’m not sure if Graham’s claim is all that true. I do believe that with Entrecard partnering with SezWho he has taken a step to help all bloggers on Entrecard. Will SezWho help get comments on your blog, I am not sure I just signed up for it but from a first glance it looks like it will help bloggers network easier.
I think the addition of SezWho has helped Entrecard to move more toward being a social media site. After reading a lot of the recent posts on the Entrecard blog it really looks like the Entrecard team would like their site to be more of a social community than just a traffic exchange/advertising network.
Interesting graphic for rating comments, don’t think I can afford the 5000ec for a custom one though.
Well, the E’s are free for downloading, and more will come soon.
Ah, now I see it. Thanks. You’re the best.
My problem is activating my widget. Could you figure out what seems to be the problem.I have posted this is my site. Thank you in advance.
Nice file of the shifting entrecards. Appreciate all that you’ve done to help the entrecard community
I don’t know, Turnip…I only received ONE comment today…hmmmmmm
Amy: One reason you may receive less comments is that your blog works differently that a normal blog. When I click on a blog article, I expect to go to the comment page. On your blog I go to some Etsy page. Commenter’s actually have to click on the tiny word “comments” under your post to comment.
Fatherly: When you activate the widget, it asks you to input the id key that was mailed to you. Be sure you are using the version of sezwho that was released today. check their support forum http://sezwho.com/support/index.php and also the WordPress install section: http://sezwho.com/install_wp.php, the detailed instructions: http://sezwho.com/install_wp_d.php#detailed, and finally the instructions I followed: Configuring SezWho by modifying your theme, which are located at the bottom of the detailed instruction page.
for us that we are blogging in a differnt language than English it is a great tool!
wow, thanks for these instructions. Now I can modify and make my own stars!!! WHOO HOOO!!!
Finally, after upgrading to wordpress 2.6 and downloading the beta version of sezwho for 2.6 wordpress, Iwas bale to make it work. I am now enjoying the partnership.
Those little turnips are terrific! I’m still waiting for a flood of comments on my blogs, but they say patience is a virtue … and I like the idea behind the partnership.
I think the mystery contest might be responsible for the shoot up in your comments too.
Anyways, I’ve always liked Entrecard more because it helped me find new blogs and I already comment on the ones I like. This is just an added incentive.
Other than this comment on your blog, I am not commenting any more due to SezWho. Its Doodle Week and I’m giving myself the goal of looking at every doodle and leaving a note on each blog participating. I’m already considering tossing SezWho. I just plain do not like it.
I’m enjoying SezWho… I don’t care too much whether I get credits for it or not, but it has lowered my EC bounce rate a bit (10%), which is really nice.
Now if only people would install the Alexa toolbar, and stop using that asinine inbox to drop from, we’d be all set just like the good old days.
I love the look of the turnips instead of the stars. It would be really nice if everyone had their star system personalized on their blog, although I don’t know what I’d even use. Great conversation starter.
I’ve just installed this icon today. Thanks
Yep, comments are climbing everywhere.
Love the mini turnips, might try to install them, too
As soon as I earn another 3,000 EC cards I will have you do up little hershey kisses for my blog. I’m sick of looking at the stars but I don’t have photoshop so I can’t make them myself. Unless your willing to do a deal of some sort…LOL! The turnips look really good!
