Lately I’ve received a few requests to join the 23Blogs link exchange. An image of 23Blogs.com - FREE Blog Roll TEXT Link Exchange.(1:10) can be found to the left. With 16 designs to choose from, you are bound to find one that matches your theme. The entire process is pretty simple. Register, sign up your blogs, then get the HTML code to paste into a text widget. I’d prefer seeing other widths than the stock 162 pixel size, but it’s an OK fit for most themes. Mousing over the links will show a description of the site before you visit.
For each click a link receives from your widget, you are guaranteed a return click. In addition, you are given 1000 impressions when you sign up. That makes it a good deal even for low traffic blogs. You should see some traffic even if you have very few visitors. Exploring the Reports page showed the following formula: impressions = 1000 welcome bonus + (site display X 10) + (referral X 500) - (your site displayed). So that explains all the referral requests, a 500 bonus for each sign up.
As with most Social Networks of this type, your success with 23Blogs.com depends upon 3 things. How high you display the widget, how high everyone else displays the widget, and how many people are in the system. Since you choose the category of blog your link is placed on, the traffic should be somewhat targeted. My advice is if you have space to spare, give it a try until you use up the 1200 credits you get right from the start, then make a decision to keep it or not.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback **********pretty cool stuff - I’ll have to play around with this and see what happens.
they don’t seem too targeted to me. And I notice you placed it way low. and what’s up with those marching animations. Those are annoying as all get out.
Colleen: I put it low because I have too many widgets at the moment. I find the animations offputting as well. I think they do that to make it catch your eye.
Interesting widget. I may have to give it a try sometime. Ive never had success with similar widgets.
No, I never had much success either with this type. Similar to bloggup!. The Social Networks that require the most work are those that pay off the best so far. When things are too easy, nobody bothers.
This is for sure a tempting one, according to your insight. I just wonder is it a google friendly one?
J.C: It does use Javascript. So Google’s spider’s shouldn’t be reading it.
Can you just click on your own widget 100 times and guarantee you get a 100 back?
The link isn’t direct, but goes through the company first. So they should catch that sort of thing.
Nice review, Turnip. I was tempted to try on both of my blogs and I saw your blog at the lowest part of the widget.
However, I cannot find a clear FAQ section there so maybe you can answer me here.
What would happen if I click the all blogs on my widget, would they ban you for life?
I think this type of link exchange reminds of blogrush, what do you think?
Thanks.
I’ve clicked one or two. It never says “don’t click your own widget”. I’d hope they would ban abuse, but I don’t see a cutoff limit. My best guess would be one click on a link per Ip per day. That way you could meet others in the network.
Why do they call it 23 blogs when I only see 10 in the widget?
The scrolling thing makes me batty but someone else has already pointed that out and like autoplay music and videos, it turns me off, so I won’t be likely to click that link for sure.
I’m probably going to give this one a pass.
Have you seen much/any traffic from it since you installed it?

Margaret: Great questions. Here are my stats:
impressions - 585 Hits -2
Since I started with 1200 impressions, that means my link was shown over 600 times.
click in = click from other blogs to yours
click out = click from your blogs to others
Hits = click out - click in
A negative number would suggest 2 more people visited my blog, than people clicking from my blog. Unfortunately, I only see partial June stats and not the May stats.
My goal is to review various social networking systems. You have to make the call whether or not each system is worth your time. Many systems take effort, and you can’t judge your results based upon my efforts.
