Every so often you visit a blog and think “Great Post!” and then feel a compelling desire to reward the author. That’s because on turnipofpower.com I subliminally play an ultra high frequency sound file that says “Great Post! Reward the author!” over and over. On other blogs, this feeling may indeed be genuine. So how can you reward the blogs you like? There are both active and passive ways to accomplish this feat.
Active Rewards
- Post a comment.
- Stumble the post, or submit it to other social media like Technorati and Digg.
- Click a Pay Per Click Ad. (That catches your interest)
- Mention the post in your own blog and link to it.
- Drop an Entrecard on it. (Lame, but they pay me to mention Entrecard)
- Buy something using one of their affiliate links
- Donate money to the author through paypal. (It happened once to me!)
Passive Rewards
- Sign up for the site’s RSS feed or Mailing list.
- Install the Alexa toolbar for Internet Explorer, Sparky or SearchStatus plugins for Firefox (This benefits everyone you visit, including yourself)
- Bookmark their Google search link so they get credit when you search.
- Bookmark the site, so you visit in the future.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback **********From your fingers to everyone’s eyes, Turnip! Here’s hoping you get plenty of stumbles, diggs, comments, et al on this one and that everyone who reads it takes it to heart, then heads over to my blog to read, comment, stumble, digg, etc

LOVE this post! May I reprint it on my site, with a direct link to you, appropriate credits, etc?
Great post and I’m not just saying that
I don’t stumble, digg or anything else, but I am always commenting…and dropping entrecards
“Any other methods you use to reward your favorite blogs/authors?”
I make a mental note that they’re intelligent and pay attention when they say something. This may sound like nothing, but I only have so many mental notes I can make.
BTW, Linda, I see you’re trying to out ‘gregarious’ me and I will accept your challenge.
@ Turnip…….great post—I learned something!
@ Stan……you always make me laugh—you have a gift!

Dawn: or course you are welcome to repost and link. I turned off trackbacks though. Had a spammer trying to duplicate my site spamming me with trackbacks.
Linda: I’ve happy for visits and comments, anything else is gravy.
Stan: I’ll make a mental note to go check out your site some day.
I like gravy
Btw I just realized I was in the top ten EC droppers of another blog and the owner rewarded me with EC credits. Isn’t that neat?
I stumbled this post in fact!
Good ideas. I try to spend time when dropping entrecards commenting and stumbling as well. The real value is in the networking, not in accumulating ECs after all.
And clicking ads is a great idea too. I do that when I visit others’ blogs as well.
I try to click some ads that interest me, sort of providing a “tip” to the blog owner.
Some of the ideas you mentioned are simple rewards that can easily be done to help the blog.
Great list.
How to reward someone for a great post, click a pay per click ad? Yeah right, you’ll get them banned from the program if too many people do that, thanks, but don’t reward me with clicks, I’d rather keep my acount and continue to make a bit of money. I’d seriously advise taking that one off your list, in fact, if you apply for adsense and they audit your site and see that, that’s grounds for instant account removal
Carl: No, you won’t get them banned. However, if you click my ads daily, and I click yours, that would get us both banned. Adsense is very smart when it comes to discounting false clicks. They are also good at detecting patterns. I don’t advise clicking adsense at all. I merely suggest clicking an ad of interest if you see one. Why do you think they are there? Someone OTHER than you? Surely a pay per click ad that says “make money online” interests you? But thanks for expressing your opinion.
Advertise with them, whether through Entrecard or otherwise? No? I would have thought that was a great way to give active support.
A: Great suggestion! Some people sell ads through various means. Project Wonderful, Entrecard, Showyouradhere.
What about a Comment Bomb? Where does that rank?
