With the wealth of new info available to advertisers in Entrecard, how do you know on which sites to advertise after all the recent changes? Sure, plenty of credit wasters advertise on any site 8 credits and below, but you can get more for your money. I have several simple rules of thumb.
Rule 1: If the 5 day average divided by 5 is greater than the ad cost, consider buying it. Using this rule, the actual best price to advertise on Turnipofpower.com would be below 336ec. Don’t kill yourself on the math, Entrecard does this for you. Here’s how. Let’s take an advertising cost of 16ec since we can all afford it.
- Go to the Campaign page and click browser.
- Select “Most Popular” and set the maximum price to 16ec. Click Search.
- Now advertise on any site with a number in the top right of the card of 80 or more. (5×16=80) This means you are paying one ec or less for each display of your ad. Obviously choose the highest ones first. In researching this article, I purchased a 16ec ad that had a score of 484. That means I am paying 1ec to have my ad viewed 6 times. (484/5) / 16 = 6.0625
Rule 2: Advertising on someone who advertises on many sites gets you more clicks.
- Go to the Campaign page and click browser.
- Select “Biggest Advertiser” but don’t set the maximum price. Click Search.
- Now advertise on any site with a cost out of proportion to those around it. For example, say the top 6 biggest advertisers all cost 1024ec to advertise on, but #7 costs only 64ec. Advertise on the 64ec because they are spending a lot of credits to get their card out there.
Rule 3: Any ad for 2ec is probably worth it, but even better are those that actually have at least two people drop on them.
- Go to the Campaign page and click browser.
- Select “Most Popular” and set the maximum price to 2ec. Click Search.
- Now advertise on any site with a number in the top right of the card of 10 or more. (5×2=10) This means you are again paying one ec or less for each display of your ad. Right now you won’t find many 2ec ads, so just advertise on any you see.
Rule 4: Advertise on anyone new in the Entrecard forums trying to impress everyone. If you can get onto their ad for 64ec or less you probably got a bargain. They will make enough noise to have people add them to their drop lists. I have no trouble spotting these people. Unlike idiot spammers, their first post in the forums is designed to impress everyone and is usually long.
Rule 5: Advertise on anyone who comments on your blog if the price is cheap. These are your loyal readers, and reward them any way you can.
Remember: These rules are here to show you how to get the most advertising value for your credits using the tools given you by Entrecard. This does not mean you cannot use outside info as well. For example, click on any Project Wonderful ad where is says “advertise here”. Look how many visitors the site really has. Most will probably be from Entrecard, but not all. Do not fall for bullshit stumble traffic numbers. Stumbles are routinely made by site owner’s friends and have nothing to do with a sites value. One stumble can bring in 1000 visitors for one day only. If their friends stumble daily, you will see 90% of their traffic is from stumbleupon. Same goes for Digg. Look for “Google” and “Yahoo” search results. See if the search terms they are ranking for is related to their site. If it’s a humor site, are they ranking for “buy Ipod batteries cheap” or “download Hallmark Cartoons”? If so, throw those numbers out.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback **********Wow! this one is a very helpful tip. i have just learned to appreciate the value of alexa rank and the popularity rating of a site to advertise on.
I also rewarded my friends by placing ads on their sites.
Again, thanks for this post!
Thanks CE, I just wanted to note that with rule #1, you probably don’t want to consider ads under that value. It doesn’t mean rush out and buy every single ad. Some people take things to extremes. The trick is learning to spot value, as in the 484ec ad for 16cr I found.
Dependable Turnip to get the inside scoop on how EC works and how to maximize it. Thanks for the useful info!
Rule #1 is what I’ve been doing for the last couple of days - whenever it was they put the drop count on the widgets.
I wonder how long before someone comes up with an automated tool to find and request the bargain ads, like ebay sniping.
Leave it to you to come up with a new action plan, less than a week after the “change”.
BTW, Rule #5 when was the last time you advertised on my widget or posted a comment on my site?
Thanks Turnip for all your dedication!!!
Thank you, I’m new and I’d like to get off on a good foot
This is a really helpful tips, thanks for taking time of making this post it’s definitely is useful.
Even the price value of the site is higher this doesn’t mean it’s a great place to advertise, we need to shop and do some counting.
Thanks again for sharing.
These are sure wonderful tips and hopefully will help me strategize my advertising campaigns for better results.
I had to laugh about rule #4, though. I already do that one :p

5 Rules For Finding Value In Entrecard Advertising…
Just sharing. A great article on how to find the best entrecard site to put your adverts on. Have fun….
Evan: When I mass buy ads I don’t usually look at the name of the site, just the numbers. But since you asked nicely, I will buy an ad there even if it’s not a bargain currently. I don’t comment because I know nothing about that particular lifestyle, same reason I don’t comment on Stan’s fantasy baseball blog.
I try to buy ads from a group of “regulars” (kind of my blog buddies) that I have met while on Entrecard. I know they enjoy my content and that their readers probably will enjoy reading my blog too. Humor and personal diary type blogs work well for me. I don’t look to advertise religious/education themed blogs (The Diva can be a bit…um…crusty, LOL) but I do have one blog reader/blog buddy that though his blog is religious in nature he buys ads on my blog and I love buying ads on his, but he is the exception, not the rule. I also only advertise on blogs that I actually read and visit regularly. If I were blogging with monetizing as my main objective I would probably approach this differently, but I am really looking to connect with potential readers or with bloggers who have content of interest for me as a blogger (ie: Turnip of Power)
Turnip thanks for the info and thanks for getting me to look at the recent changes to Entrecard. I like the ability to browse based on max EC price.
That is some great advice. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for doing the math!
GREAT ideas! Of course, every time I go to advertise on certain blogs, I always get a “not accepting ads at this time.” What’s up with THAT?
I’m going to try some of those tips. I don’t have much in credits any more because no one’s advertising on my blog. I miss Entrecard’s old way…sigh. Guess I have to get back to dropping more.
Turnip: You definitely have the best tips for using Entrecard. Do you ever take a break from coming up with advertising methods on Entrecard?
Just curious.
Thanks man.
In all seriousness Paul, I would say the following is how I would rank articles in my niche and what I look for first:
1. Entrecard tips, tricks, and strategy
2. Other info on Entrecard like interviews, changes, controversial issues, exchange rate.
3. Internet marketing articles
4. Anything else I feel like writing about, including health and weightloss, video game, computers, autism, sports or whatever.
Great ideas! I am doing Rule 1 and 3 before this post. But I have never thought of Rule 2, 4 and 5. Esp. Rule 2.. I will be trying it out. Thanks.
Wow, this is invaluable information. thanks for putting it all together for us.
This post has been very helpful to me. Since they changed the Entrecard system, I have been quite confused about how the new system works. I tried a little to read articles on the forum, but it was no good since I am currently so busy and I have tight schedule.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge in this area. Cheers.
The other rule I follow is decent placement of the EC widget. Not too fussed on the really low priced ads but definitely a factor in deciding whether to spend anything more than a handful of credits.
Trying to think of some idea by which new/hobby bloggers do not get crushed and yet the spam sites get punished!
Great post!
Turnip:
Thanks for this great info. I have not implemented the Entrecard dropping method. It took me all weekend to set it up but I think I have it now. I have subscribed to this blog.
Tremendous tips, thanks for sharing, I will try to apply some of this. I find this article extremely useful, that is why I put your ling for it on my blog.
Great tips. What I also do is check their alexa ranking. If it is a number below 300.000 and the entrecard price is low, it means that they have a lot of readers from outside the entrecard community. Those are more likely to click through. Also, I agree with Ian that you need to see that the widget is place high enough. Else it is just a waste of credits.
Great tips! I didn’t know there was such a strategy to entrecard. I just got my account. But anyway, thanks for sure!
Very helpful information to have. I’m hoping I’m not one of those newbies that goes on and on in the forums though. Just in comments perhaps.
Entrecard is all strategy. Look at the top 10 most popular blogs. One of them is 100% stolen content. It shows you nobody reads that blog, but drop on it anyway. When I see comments here, I know the people who do read.
Agreed!
It is hard to concentrate and read and then follow in the busy road/traffic.
Right?

Thanks for all these tips. But shouldn’t you be hiding this for your own benefit?
Depends Isles, On one hand I do view Entrecard as a competition, but that’s only among the top sites. Most of what I wrote here is common sense. If my readers get more out of the service, they everyone benefits.
