This is my first post written using WordPress version 2.5. First impressions are “I hate it!” Only because everything in the admin panel is somewhere different. A few things changed names, for example ”blogroll” is now “link”. I see they made an attempt to organize things a bit more, like under “theme editor” CSS files are listed separately. They added functionality to add video and audio directly to posts, along with it a “manage media” section. I’m sure once I get used to it I won’t even remember the old control panel.
BTW, I made the upgrade using the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade plugin. It does everything for you, including downloading the new version. I suggest using manual mode so you see the process, but automatic mode works fine too. Remember to check your plugins when finished to make sure they are all activated.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackback **********Hi Turnip! So you haven’t had any trouble with the upgrade? I’m always a little hesitant to jump right in. I prefer to let the braver veggies go first — aren’t turnips known for their fearlessness and strong constitution?
I always jump right in. I also use beta drivers. Only thing I refuse to upgrade are motherboard drivers until I am very sure I need to upgrade. In the case of WordPress, 2.5 has been tested enough that I have no worries. Only people that changed the actual WordPress code have any cause to worry.

If you find problems with Wordpress 2.5 would you share so those of us considering moving to Wordpress can be aware of the issues.
Jim: I certainly will report any issues. So far I moved 4 blogs to 2.5 and no problems to report. Some plugins needed to be manually activated after the update, that was all.
I really don’t want to upgrade
But I guess I will need too eventually. I’ve been reading some bad things about 2.5, security problems etc.
I hope everything is sorted out now though.
Ohh, thanks for sharing that plugin.
I’m really anxious to upgrade to 2.5. It’s supposed to make the blogger’s life easier and more “beautiful”, isn’t it?
By the way, Turnip, do you always run a backup before you upgrade?
I’m already done. Wow, that was fast! Just a couple minutes, including a couple backups and stuff. Really impressive…
I backup the files but leave them on the server, nothing special. The plugin includes that step for me.
Thanks for the plugin info, currently on 2.3.3, maybe I’ll wait and see for now, how the new version is going with others
But I’m really excited to try it also.
My upgrade went pretty smoothly as well. I did however have a bit of problems with some of the plugins not working anymore. Maybe that will teach me not to use too many plugins. I notice that most of the plugin authors are bringing out new versions at a fast and furious rate. Everytime I go into the plugin page there seems to be some new version available.
Love the new version. Maybe it looks different now but I’ll get used to it in no time.
Thanks for posting how the Wordpress upgrade went and giving some tips on how it can be done easier. I’m a relatively new blogger and am nervous about changes to the back end! Your advice is truly helpful
And if you have a moment… Ad Me…:)
