Hi Everyone! For the last two weeks I’ve been trapped in a hospital bed with no Internet access. Though I am far from better, at least I am home. So let’s get right into the gory details.
About 3 weeks ago I had a typical fever with all the aches and pains that go along with it. I went to my doctor who said to “ride it out”. About 4 days later my left leg suddenly started to swell up and I couldn’t move my left arm. I returned to the doctor, who sent me to the emergency room for a sonogram. It proved negative, and I went home with some antibiotics and some steroids. Neither of which seemed to work at all.
That Monday I returned to the emergency room for more tests, and after a few hours I was admitted as a patient. My left foot was swollen like a football. My left leg had huge blisters oozing fluid running all the way up to the knee. Meanwhile my shoulder still wasn’t working.
For the next two weeks they gave me antibiotics through an IV. The shoulder they xrayed, did an MRI, and finally stuck a giant needle into my shoulder joint to see what was up. Still no clues.
The leg was coming along nicely, so they decided to operate on the shoulder. On Wednesday they performed Arthroscopic Surgery on my shoulder. I guess they didn’t find much, because all the surgeon would tell me was that my shoulder “looked angry”.
Overall the experience wasn’t bad. I spent 14 days lying in bed watching college basketball, downing 2 percocet every 4 hours non-stop. The downside was no Internet access, and having a roommate that smelled like poo. Next up are office visits, pills, and physical therapy.
Upon returning home I had over 350 emails waiting. My site still maintained a respectable number of visitors per day, and my Alexa actually improved it’s 3 month average. The big mystery was I got to finally read what happened between John Cow and Graham. (less exciting than I imagined)
For those who requested being added to my bookmarks and mailing list, I’m getting to that soon. Thank You to everyone who left supportive comments. I hope to get around to responding to each one as I get a chance.

Good to see you back Turnip!
Keep taking good care of yourself!
Glad you are getting better.. am sorry to hear they don’t know what the problems were.
Looking forward to seeing you around more.

Officially, the problem with my leg was diagnosed as Cellulitis. Nasty stuff.
Welcome back! We were worried about you.
Glad to have you back. I was wondering where you wandered off to. I was hoping it was a tropical desert island - sounds like not so much . . .
Glad to hear you are well now
It’s good to have you back! I hope your recovery continues on a positive path so that you don’t end up back in the hospital… even though your stay didn’t sound all that bad
Sounds awful! Glad to hear you are on the mend.
I was surprised to see your card dropped on me so I popped over here. Welcome back and I know we all wish you well in your recovery!
Welcome back yo!
Oh my. I didn’t know. I’m glad you’re home; it’s just great to be home after an experience like that.
Get well soon. Curl up with books.
Glad to see you back, and better… Good wishes for a total recovery!
its nice to know about you! best off luck and get well soon completely.
Glad to see you back Turnip!
Welcome back… good to see you!
I think I might take your poo-smelling roommate over the one I had last time I was in the hospital. She wanted to chat CONSTANTLY. Thank goodness I was getting morphine and slept through most of it. It was five months ago, and I think my ears are still ringing from the experience! LOL
Oh, get better and don’t get sick again.
Hey… it’s good to see you back
and I hope you get back to 100% ASAP
Glad to see your feeling better. Now that you have your Internet back, DON’T overdo it!!
Get well soon
I wondered why I was not getting you in my e mail. So glad you are back. I have had cellulitis in my arm. I agree it is not much fun. Here is for a fast recovery.
Holy Cow…you sure did have us all worried! I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend, and I hope that you don’t ever again “get” whatever it was that caused all this….
Percocet….mmmmm….LOVE the stuff, lol!
I was wondering where you were! Glad you’re on the road to recovery. At least you had some March Madness to keep you entertained.
Glad to have you back. My wife and I were both worried about you.
So you admittedly took steroids, but you say McNamee was not an acquaintance?
Glad to hear you are doing better. Crazy how the body can do unanticipated things that stop us in our tracks!
I’m so sorry for what you’ve been going through and I hope things get a lot better soon. Although, I have to say, I didn’t miss you. Not because I don’t think you’re great, but because I just returned home from the hospital too~ I had a tumor on my spinal cord several years ago that they think may have returned.
I have to go back to the hospital, and I wasn’t sure how to post about it. This post helped~
Thank you Turnip, and get well soon~ We need you~
Ann
good to see you back in action turnip!
Welcome back. I could still handle the smelly guy but no Internet, that would drive me to steroids. Look after yourself.
Holy Cow! Was this some sort of nasty bacterial thing? I am glad that you are doing better - please take care of yourself and make sure you get completely well.
oooh yuck. My husband, who was diabetic, had something similar happen to his hand and arm when he inadvertently found himself in the middle of a doggie argument. He got bit on the hand, which didn’t break the skin that we could see, but his hand swelled like a balloon and the redness and swelling started creeping up his arm and was hot to the touch. He had to pay a visit to the emergency room for this “unexplainable” infection. He was given antibiotics and it went away. Very strange thing.
Glad to see you’re doing better.
Glad to hear your out of the hospital. Keep getting better and the Internet will be waiting once your up to it.
Glad to have you back and that you’re feeling better.
Glad to see you back. Hope you get straightened out soon.
