If I were to take all the words in the dictionary, let you buy a link to one of the words, and charged you $1 per letter for that privilege, would you be interested?  I thought not.  Such Wiki style directories went out of favor months ago.   However, one such page is making the rounds lately called The Big Word Project .

I’m not quite sure how anyone benefits anyone other than the owners of www.thebigwordproject.com. You can’t even resell your “word”. With over 200,0000 common words in the English language, and at $1 per letter a pop, what would I gain by buying a word? When was the last time you bypassed Google to go to www.thebigwordproject.com and see who owned “mesothelioma”. Hats off to the owners for creating a new twist to the Wiki page idea, but I think I’ll pass. If they want to donate the money to charity, I’d reconsider.

I mean, why not name a star after your website. Think how famous you will be if we find life there!  Not to mention, you are buying a paid link.  Anyone know how Google feels about paid links?  Oh, it’s a directory, and how long has it been since directories stopped giving pagerank?  I suppose it’s all in good fun, but for a quarter you can ride the pony outside the supermarket instead.
