Graham LangdonThe following is an interview with Graham Langdon, founder of Entrecard and previous owner of Million Dollar Wiki

Turnip:  Entrecard is now a few months old, with over 4000 users.  While the number of blogs increased, the number of drops on the top blogs really hasn’t.  For example, with 3000ec blogs, 500 was the “most popular”, yet with 4500 blogs, 600ec is most popular.  Are you satisfied with the growth, and why proportionately are the top blogs getting fewer drops?

Graham:I am very satisfied with the growth. It allows us to respond to problems and adjust our backend as things grow increasingly complex and use increasingly more system resources. If it grew twice as fast, we might not be able to handle it. But the current growth rate is actually perfect.

I don’t know why the top blogs are getting proportionately fewer drops. Maybe lots of people don’t want the rich to get richer! -its all democratic if you think of your drops as votes.

Turnip: 600ec is a lots of credits for advertising on one blog.  Any update on the new formula for calculating advertising costs or a timetable for the changes?

Graham: The new formula is going to simply allow people to lower their prices if they so choose, and prices will increase through tiers if your Alexa rank is below 20k, 10k, and 5k

Turnip: One of my main concerns is a lack of incentive for recognized blogs in the community to advertise, thus creating a glut of credits.  Any chance you might tie credits spent into ad cost or allow Project Wonderful type bidding on certain select sites like johnchow or problogger?

Graham: We’re going to have a “paid rank” category, that the top 30 bidders get onto the page, and can be outbid at any time. It should get interesting.

Turnip: One of your early goals was to get some type of financial sponsor. “Once per day we will allow a larger company to drop their card into the inbox across the entire network”.  Is Project Wonderful a temporary solution until a sponsor is found, or have your plans changed?

Graham: We like project wonderful because it allows our members to pay cash to advertise on our site. We’re exploring a number of targeted monetization strategies. You might start seeing a pitch for a blogging related product or service on the dash in a “deal of the day” type of thing. We’re also opening the credit exchange soon where you can sell your credits for cash to others, and we’ll take a little piece.

Turnip: How many blogs of your own do you still have in the Entrecard system, and do you still drop cards?

Graham: I have a couple blogs here and there, but I only drop from my Entrecard blog. Some days I only drop one or two, some days I drop 40 or 50. It depends. Whenever I go through all the support forms it involves a lot of checking out members’ blogs, and I always drop my card. And alot of other blogs I read regularly and drop my card. So I’m an active dropper, but definitely not a chain-dropper.

Turnip: What’s the most exciting upcoming feature current Entrecards have to look forward to in the next few months?

Graham:The credit to money exchange. I can’t tell you how excited I am that members will have a streamlined way to earn money with Entrecard by simply selling their credits. It’s going to be awesome!

Turnip: Thanks Graham!
